Artemis Human Capital is delighted to be partnering with a successful and growing Newtownabbey-based organisation to recruit an Assistant Accountant to join their established finance team. This opportunity is ideally suited to a part-qualified ACCA, CIMA or ACA candidate who has built a solid foundation in finance and is now looking to strengthen their management accounting experience within a commercial environment.

We're particularly keen to speak with candidates coming from construction, manufacturing, engineering, contracting or project-based businesses, where they've gained exposure to month-end reporting, financial controls, cost analysis and commercial finance processes. Working alongside an experienced finance team, you'll gain valuable exposure to management accounts, budgeting, forecasting and business performance reporting, making this an excellent stepping stone towards a future Management Accountant position.

This role is offered on an initial 12-month Fixed Term Contract with an immediate start available and strong potential for longer-term opportunities.

The Job

This is a hands-on finance role with a strong focus on management accounting and business performance reporting. You will support the delivery of accurate and timely financial information while developing a deeper understanding of the commercial drivers behind business performance. The successful candidate will gain exposure beyond transactional finance and become involved in the reporting, analysis and planning activities that support key business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Prepare journals, accruals and prepayments
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules
  • Support month-end close activities and reporting deadlines
  • Assist with the production of management and board reporting packs
  • Analyse monthly financial performance and investigate variances
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Assist with cashflow reporting and planning activities
  • Produce meaningful financial analysis to support decision-making
  • Monitor financial trends and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Support audit and year-end reporting requirements
  • Contribute to finance process improvement initiatives
  • Work closely with operational stakeholders across the business
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and commercial finance activities as required

About You

You will be a motivated and commercially minded finance professional who is keen to continue developing within a management accounting environment. You may currently be working as an Assistant Accountant, Assistant Management Accountant, Cost Accountant or Senior Accounts Assistant and be looking for a role that offers broader exposure and increased responsibility. You may be working within Construction, Manufacturing, Engineering, Contracting, Facilities Management, Project-based organisations.

Essential

  • Qualified or Part-qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA / Qualified ATI
  • Minimum 3-5 years' current experience within a finance or accounting role
  • Experience supporting month-end reporting and financial controls
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work across finance and operational teams
