We are delighted to be recruiting for an Accounts Assistant to join a leading business within the agri-food and animal nutrition sector based in Belfast.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Accounts Assistant or Accounting Technician looking to join a well-established and growing organisation. Working as part of a collaborative finance function, you’ll provide day-to-day support to three Accountants while taking ownership of a broad range of accounting responsibilities that are critical to the smooth running of the finance department.
Offering genuine exposure across the accounting cycle, this role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, values stability and is keen to further develop their accounting and reporting experience within a fast-paced commercial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit VAT returns, ensuring compliance with current legislation and internal deadlines
- Complete daily, weekly and monthly bank reconciliations across multiple accounts, investigating and resolving reconciling items
- Prepare and post journals, including accruals, prepayments and other month-end adjustments
- Process and reconcile company credit card transactions, ensuring accurate coding and supporting documentation
- Assist with month-end close activities, helping to ensure reporting deadlines are achieved
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure the integrity of accounting data
- Support the continuous improvement of financial processes and internal controls
- Work closely with the wider finance team, providing support across a variety of accounting and reporting activities
- Assist with financial reporting requirements and other ad hoc finance duties as required
- Contribute to the efficient operation of the finance function through a proactive and collaborative approach
Who We’re Looking For
- Around five years’ experience in an Accounts Assistant, Accounting Technician or similar finance role
- Strong understanding of core accounting principles and month-end processes
- Previous experience preparing VAT returns and completing bank reconciliations
- Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
- Proactive and team-oriented approach with a willingness to support colleagues across the wider finance function
