The predicted salary is between 10 - 15 £ per hour.

24 hours per week over 4 days on a 3-month Freelance Contract with potential to extend. £12.60/ hour calculated by the Living Wage Foundation. Rate negotiable depending on experience. Studio-based, in Central Bristol, therefore not a remote role.

Artatelier is a leading international art consultancy and advisory company sourcing, commissioning and curating artworks for a range of international projects. We are seeking a professional and conscientious freelance individual to join our small and friendly team in Central Bristol, to provide assistance for projects. There is also possible scope for archiving and cataloguing an artist’s estate. You will be working with 1 other freelancer, and an Artatelier team member for the archival and cataloguing phase.

Main Responsibilities

  • Project Management Support
    • Provide general project support, working closely with and reporting to the Project Manager.
    • Visit Artatelier’s storage facility to coordinate deliveries, verify received items, conduct inspections, and pack artworks.
    • Travel to Artatelier’s framer in Bristol to carry out artwork inspections, and prepare condition reports.
    • Purchase art materials, as required for projects.
    • Arrange collections and deliveries using online platforms.
    • General office admin, including answering the office phone, and answering the door for packages.
  • Archiving
    • Recording artworks into an inventory software.
    • Measuring and weighing artworks.
    • General art packing.
    • Handling, analysis and manipulating bulk data.
    • Condition reports.
    • Photographing artworks.
    • Provenance research.
    • Recording conservation & maintenance.
  • Art Inventory Software
    • Upload data on all of the above into an industry-leading inventory software.

Education and Experience

  • Educated to 2:1 degree level or higher in an arts related subject such as Fine Art, History of Art, History, Museum Studies. If your degree is not one of these, please apply regardless, stating why your graduate studies would fit this role.
  • Bristol-based or able to commute.
  • Experience in art handling.
  • Proven experience of archiving and cataloguing.
  • Experience in administration, working with bulk data on software such as Excel and Google Sheet.
  • A keen eye for detail and artistic quality.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft software packages including Word and Excel, and email applications.
  • Excellent general IT and software skills, and quick to learn new software and features.
  • Excellent communication skills essential for duties such as note taking and giving task updates.
  • Friendly, conscientious, uses own initiative, can organise and prioritise own workload.
  • Ability to work in a small team.
  • An interest and passion for contemporary art, and artistic processes.
