Launched in 2016, Art Work Exeter CIC (formerly Art Week Exeter) aims to bring the many diverse forms of contemporary and traditional art being made and shared in Exeter to new audiences – and to bring new and ambitious art work into the city from elsewhere. Alongside our Art Week event, we co-produce opportunities across Exeter throughout the year that enable people to connect, learn, and feel inspired through art and creative activity. Art Work Exeter’s vision is a culturally curious Exeter that values art making and artists as essential to our lives, communities, and economies. As an artist-led organisation, we place community-led creativity, partnership working, and artist support at the core of our ethos.

This is a volunteer role for the Board of Directors at Art Work Exeter CIC. The Director with oversight of Finance will be responsible for supporting the Board and team with managing financial statements, conducting financial analysis, overseeing financial reporting, and communicating financial information effectively. This is a hybrid role based in Exeter with flexibility for remote work.

Qualifications:

  • Previous CIC or charity Board experience
  • Financial Statements, Financial Reporting, and Finance skills
  • Analytical Skills
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Experience in financial analysis
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Familiarity with accounting principles and practices
  • Understanding of corporate sponsorship and fundraising is a bonus
  • Relevant qualification and experience in Finance, Accounting, or related field

We are looking for an inclusive and thoughtful individual who doesn't have to have worked with an arts organisation before, but it is important that they have a passion, good knowledge, and understanding of the value of the arts, social impact, and community.

We are mid-way through our tenure as Cultural Partners in Residence at Exeter Custom House, creating an ambitious and provoking series of contemporary interventions and socially-engaged projects. The operational team, comprising the Creative Director and two Associate Artists, will benefit from an increased Board offer in relation to our financial planning and reporting, fundraising activity, and resilience.
