Art-K Oxford Branch is looking for a Level 4 Apprenticeship – Learning & Skills Mentor Art Tutor Assistant. The role is part-time, with a fixed term-time schedule and adjusted hours during school holidays. The apprenticeship combines studio work with training and study to earn a nationally recognised Level 4 qualification.

Working Hours

  • Term Time: 30 hours per week – Monday 1.30–9.30pm, Wednesday 12:00–8:00pm, Friday 10:00–6:00pm, Saturday 8:00–4:00pm.
  • School Holidays (14 weeks per year): 30 hours per week – Monday to Friday 9:00–5:00pm (daily schedule varies based on studio needs).

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: £8.25–£10.00 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Sick Pay: Enhanced policy – 3 weeks full pay in any 12-month period after the 3-month probation period.
  • Benefits: 24/7 access to mental-health support with BUPA; 3× salary Death in Service insurance paid as a one-time sum.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Child Development – Deliver engaging art sessions in a club environment with high teacher-student ratios; support students’ artistic development; evaluate progress and communicate with parents.
  • Training & Professional Development – Receive training on all art-K projects; join a supportive team of educators.
  • Studio & Class Support – Prepare materials, maintain studio, administer tasks (emails, phone calls, reviews, promos); follow health & safety and child safeguarding policies.
  • Cover & Additional Support – Provide ad-hoc support across studios; lead holiday workshops, parties and term-time classes.

Ideal Candidate

  • Passionate about art and education; proactive, enthusiastic and a good team player.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Computer-savvy for daily administrative tasks.
  • Reliable, organised and eager to learn.
  • Practical artistic skills across acrylics, water-colour, oils, pastels, inks, clay, papier-mâché, paper sculpture, etc.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new projects and behavioural techniques quickly.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 in Maths & English.
  • Level 2 in Art.
  • Level 3 in Art is preferable but not required.
