In this exciting role, you'll provide high quality matchday assistance and day-to-day physiotherapy treatment and rehabilitation to players, making a critical contribution to the department's objectives.

Our Commitment to Safeguarding

We are committed to ensuring that our environments for children, young people and adults at risk remain safe and inclusive. We therefore require successful candidates to complete a DBS check and other essential background checks prior to starting their employment. Depending on the responsibilities of the role, a DBS will be either a basic, standard, or enhanced check.

Your day‑to‑day

  • Establish winning relationships with our players - you’ll be entrusted to build impactful working relationships with our players and maximise the ability to influence general health, performance, injury risk and recovery.
  • Deliver best‑in‑class injury management and rehabilitation processes - you will feed into strategies to improve performance and reduce risk of injury, collect and analyse data to identify trends and possible contributory injury factors, support the delivery of appropriate recovery strategies, and you will oversee the return‑to‑performance stage within the rehabilitation process.
  • Provide support on matchdays and at training sessions - you’ll be present at all matches and training sessions and will be on hand to have medical input for players, and you will organise packing, collection, maintenance and transportation of all medical equipment.
  • Develop effective rehab processes - you’ll accurately diagnose injuries, lead on the development of appropriate rehabilitation interventions, provide prognostic information and return‑to‑play times to colleagues, and you will assist with the development of decision‑based frameworks for the most commonly encountered injuries and use these as the basis for individualised rehabilitation and treatment plans.
  • Maximise player availability - you’ll strive to maximise the performance and availability of all members of the squad through appropriate decision making and the provision of physiotherapy and exercise‑based interventions.
  • Collaborate with the wider department - you will support the Physiotherapy team with evaluating effectiveness of rehabilitation/treatment programmes and you will work with other members of the Medical and Performance team to provide a shared decision‑making approach to the treatment and prevention of injury, whilst providing timely and daily reports to our Head Coach on available/injured players.
  • Build effective links with international team stakeholders - you’ll develop solid working relationships with international team medical staff to smooth the transition of players from club to international football, ensuring international teams are giving timely reports back to us on the players’ return.
  • Carry out in‑depth auditing processes - you will assist the delivery and audit of all AWFC First Team and Academy Team squad cardiac screens to ensure all players have been screened appropriately, and you’ll maintain the FA injury audit in conjunction with other Physiotherapists.
  • Make a key contribution to onboarding new players - you will support the Physiotherapy team in conducting pre‑signing medicals on all new players signing for AWFC to ensure they can deliver in accordance with their contract with us.

What we are looking for

  • Extensive experience in elite sport - you come with a proven track record, with a high level of experience in working with elite level athletes and effectively diagnosing and treating sporting injuries.
  • Credible expertise - you have a BSc in Physiotherapy, you are a member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and you hold an Advanced Emergency Aid Qualification (Level 5 ATMMiF).
  • Versatile approach to medical treatment - you come with knowledge and awareness of available conventional and alternative treatments, but a treatment approach which is based on both evidence‑based practice and experienced‑based learning.
  • Proactive and engaging style - you’re an excellent role model for staff and players, with an ability to educate, advise and motivate individuals and champion a culture of high performance and success.
  • Passionate collaborator - you have a history of working collaboratively within a dedicated team to demonstrate the added value of multidisciplinary performance support for players.
  • Excellent communication skills - you’re proud of your ability to effectively communicate in a clear and logical manner and tailor your tone and approach as required.
  • Growth mindset - you possess a willingness to learn and are motivated to develop your skills and experience and contribute to the evolution of the department.
