The Role
We are looking for an Academy Sport Scientist to be responsible for the sport science provision within the professional development phase (PDP). You will be entrusted with collecting, and interpreting data to provide relevant insights, as well as maintaining and developing databases which align with our Academy through to our Men's First Team. In this exciting role, you'll be optimising player potential by enhancing availability, maximising physical performance, and mitigating the risk of injury; you will be embedded in a multidisciplinary team and will work collaboratively with multiple colleagues to optimise health, development, and performance of our Academy players.
Your day-to-day
- Oversee load management β you will handle external and internal load monitoring (GPS/HR) and reporting, and you'll appropriately plan and periodise training loads on a team and individual basis.
- Manage fatigue and performance profiling β you will be responsible for neuromuscular fatigue monitoring, reporting and insights, as well as physical performance profiling.
- Uphold our high standards β you'll eagerly maintain and develop our current databases and you will service and maintain our existing technology (hardware and software), to uphold our culture of excellence.
- Deliver detailed matchday preparations β you will relish the opportunity to lead our sport science matchday provision.
- Contribute to player reviews β you'll have impactful input into micro and mesocycle and individual player reviews.
- Prioritise development and recovery β you will support with physical development sessions (prep and gym) and you'll assist with the rehabilitation of players and deliver recovery sessions where appropriate.
- Champion the growth of the department β you'll be committed to ongoing research, development and innovation, to keep us ahead of the curve.
- Act as an ambassador for our club β you will proudly maintain our child protection, health, safety and equal opportunities procedures, and you'll adhere to a strict code of confidentiality in respect of any information relating to our club and its operations.
What we are looking for
- Background in elite sport β you come with a verifiable record of implementing sport science services within an elite sporting environment.
- Credible expertise β you have a MSc degree in Sport Science or Strength and Conditioning (or equivalent), and you hold Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Science (CASES) accreditation.
- Experience maintaining critical databases β you possess a history of extensive database management and development.
- Exceptional collaborator β you are easily able to successfully integrate into and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, and you take pride in your ability to build impactful relationships to influence and motivate change.
- Best-in-class communication skills β you can effectively communicate complex information in a simple and relevant way.
- Flexible and adaptable mindset β you're proactive and versatile in your approach to achieving successful outcomes and you demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to respond to the demands of elite football.
