We are looking for a Performance Physiotherapist to support key aspects of the Women’s First Team medical performance. This will include supporting the Performance Medical Lead in all areas of sports medicine to improve sporting performance.
This pivotal role will focus on optimising all aspects of player preparation to maximise performance and availability, with the successful candidate acting as the lead Physiotherapist on match days. The role will play a central part in injury risk reduction, injury assessment and management, recovery optimisation, and the return-to-performance phase of rehabilitation, while also delivering rehabilitation support where required.
We are looking for someone who thrives in an elite, high-performance environment and who is comfortable operating under pressure, adapting quickly, and contributing proactively within a multidisciplinary team. The role will continue to evolve, and the successful candidate will be encouraged to bring initiative, ideas, and innovation to help drive standards and continually improve performance medicine provision.
Your day-to-day
- Operate as our lead matchday Physiotherapist - you'll be entrusted as our matchday Physiotherapist for all fixtures and you will work closely with our matchday Assistant Physiotherapist to deliver post-match summaries of injuries to the Performance team and Coaches.
- Keep abreast of player welfare - you will diligently monitor daily wellness scores, regularly informing and discussing the data and insights with our Performance team.
- Champion exceptional levels of physical performance - you'll be entrusted with prescribing individual pre-activation exercises to all squad players, and you will handle pre and post-matchday screenings with physical performance focused colleagues.
- Deliver best-in-class injury management and rehabilitation processes - you will feed into strategies to improve performance and reduce risk of injury, collect and analyse data to identify trends and possible contributory injury factors, support the delivery of appropriate recovery strategies, and you will oversee the return-to-performance stage within the rehabilitation process.
- Prioritise injury risk reduction - you'll contribute meaningfully to our club’s return-to-performance processes and injury risk reduction strategies, using high-quality decision making, collaboration, objective monitoring, and performance-led rehabilitation to maximise player availability and resilience.
- Uphold department best practice - you will ensure the practical implementation of best practice against our values, and you will make a lasting contribution to the vision and mission of our club, maintaining detailed records for the department of all Sports Medicine and Performance actions in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with colleagues across our club - you'll meet with our Technical and Physical Performance teams on a regular basis to report and review progress, and you will also work with our Player Recruitment team to enhance the recruitment of players.
- Establish mechanisms to measure team impact - you'll create and implement systems and methodologies to evaluate the success of the department in relation to our vision.
- Focus on personal development - you will eagerly sustain all legal and professional qualifications in relation to your profession and you will ensure you maintain the equivalent standards and relevant Continuous Professional Development for all Performance staff within our Women's First Team set-up.
- Act as a proud ambassador for our club - you'll adhere to our club code of conduct and to a strict code of confidentiality in respect of any information relating to our club and its operations, and you will strive to work within the parameters of our Child Protection, Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities policies and procedures.
What we are looking for
- Extensive experience in elite sport - you come with a proven track record, with a high level of experience in the provision of sports medicine and strength & conditioning services to athletes in elite level sports to improve performance, prevent injuries and ensure timely recoveries.
- Credible expertise - you have a MSc in Physiotherapy and you're a registered chartered Physiotherapist and a member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and you have knowledge of the FA Anti-doping and WADA regulations.
- In-depth knowledge of a variety of disciplines and methods - you come with a thorough understanding of the various sports science and medicine disciplines and their impact on the training and performance of young elite athletes, and you have an excellent grasp of scientific methods of trialling and validating assessment, monitoring and evaluation equipment and protocols.
- Certifications in safeguarding and first aid - you hold an FA Safeguarding Children Certificate and a current recognised first aid qualification from FA AREA, ATMMiF or equivalent/higher qualification.
- Proactive and engaging style - you're an excellent role model for staff and young players, you champion a culture of high performance and success, and you bring enthusiasm and a willingness to be flexible in approach to achieve desired outcomes.
- Passionate collaborator - you have a history of working collaboratively within a dedicated team to demonstrate the added value of multidisciplinary performance support for players.
- Forward-thinking approach - you lead on your own continuous professional development and are able to show evidence of ongoing CPD in the major speciality of your work portfolio.

- Organised and adaptable approach - you're proud of your sound administrative, organisational and prioritisation skills, as well as your attention to detail and ability to produce detailed verbal and written reports in a timely manner.
Please note: this role will require a degree of flexibility regarding availability, you'll be expected to travel with the team and work weekends, and your working hours may change at short notice.
