We are looking for a Steward Manager on a 14 month fixed-term contract basis to oversee the day-to-day management of our Stewarding workforce and event-day deployments, ensuring compliance with our club’s safety certificate.
In this role, you’ll oversee external stewarding agencies, agree staffing levels, and assist with driving KPI performance while setting and maintaining high stewarding standards across all events.
Your day-to-day
- Coordinate a large Stewarding workforce - you’ll oversee the day-to-day management of an in-house casual Stewarding team of 850, ensuring high performance, engagement, and compliance.
- Own key systems and processes - you will act as the product owner for the Venue Aware stewarding module, driving effective use and continuous improvement.
- Manage external partnerships - you’ll assist in maintaining relationships with three external stewarding agencies, agreeing staffing levels and maintaining strong operational standards.
- Oversee planning and deployment - you will manage stewarding plans for all major and minor events, ensuring resourcing levels are met and safety plans are effectively delivered.
- Maintain compliance and safeguarding standards - you’ll oversee right to work and DBS checks while acting as the department’s Safeguarding Officer.
- Drive performance and standards - you will monitor attendance, punctuality, and overall steward performance, addressing issues and maintaining consistent service standards.
- Take charge on event days - you’ll manage all steward deployments, standards, and matchday operations, including reporting staffing levels, running the steward office, responding to incidents, and contributing to event briefing materials.
What we are looking for
- Qualified in spectator safety - you hold a Level 3 Spectator Safety qualification, supporting safe and compliant event operations.
- Experienced event safety professional - you bring a proven track record in event safety management, ideally within stadiums, arenas, or large public venues.
- Passionate people leader - you have demonstrable experience managing teams, with the ability to lead, motivate, and drive performance.
- Skilled in stewarding operations - you’ve successfully managed stewarding functions at major events, with an understanding of deployment planning and delivery.
- Confident communicator - you’re highly effective both written and verbally, with the ability to deliver briefings and engage a wide range of stakeholders.
- Highly organised and adaptable - you thrive in fast-paced environments, managing multiple priorities while maintaining excellent attention to detail and administration standards.
- Technical proficiency - you’re confident using Microsoft Office applications and managing data, systems, and reporting requirements.
- Knowledge-driven and proactive approach - you bring understanding of areas such as event planning, traffic management, safeguarding, and training processes, alongside a commitment to continuous improvement and personal development.
