The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping, scaling, and maintaining our data pipelines and Lakehouse architectures, ensuring they are reliable, high-performing, and cost-efficient.

Your day-to-day:

  • Design and develop ETL/ELT pipelines - you will build and operate ETL/ELT pipelines in Azure and Databricks, focusing on reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency.
  • Construct Kimball-style dimensional models - you’ll develop and maintain dimensional models, confirmed dimensions, and fact tables to support analytics and reporting.
  • Implement automated testing - you will define and enforce data quality and validation checks, incorporating automated testing into pipeline workflows.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards - you’ll provide guidance on data governance, access controls, encryption, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally - you will work closely with the wider Data team to internalise knowledge and identify opportunities to optimise existing pipelines.

What we are looking for:

  • Expertise in cloud-based platforms - you possess hands-on experience with Databricks, PySpark, and Delta Lake, including performance tuning techniques.
  • Proven data pipeline development - you’re confident in building production-grade ETL/ELT pipelines, with knowledge of integration patterns for SFTP and REST APIs, Pub/Sub.
  • Previous experience with Kimball methodology - you’re skilled in designing data products using Kimball principles, with solid data modelling capabilities when using a Lakehouse framework.
  • Analytical and troubleshooting mindset - you maintain a detail-oriented approach to testing and debugging, implementing testing for data transformations and data quality framework.
  • Experience with Azure data services - you’re proficient in Azure tools such as ADF, ADLS Gen2, and Event Hubs, with advanced SQL and query optimisation skills.
  • Effective communication skills - you are confident working with cross-functional teams, able to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise insights for stakeholders and easily deliver data products to analytics and BI consumers.
  • Compliance and governance knowledge - you possess a thorough understanding of data governance, encryption, access control, and industry compliance standards, with the ability to implement and advocate best practices.
