Transport Manager – Wigan Depot
ArrowXL is the UK’s leading provider of two-person home delivery, specialising in the storage, delivery, and installation of large, heavy, bulky items that typically require two people. We are looking for a Transport Manager to oversee the smooth operation of our Transport and Service Delivery functions at the Wigan Depot.
Responsibilities
- Lead on‑site resources (colleagues, vehicles, and equipment) to ensure all required items are in the right place at the right time and can flex to customers’ changing needs.
- Report to the site General Manager and be accountable for leading, guiding and motivating Shift Managers, First Line Managers and service delivery crews.
- Manage the Transport Function at Wigan (main hub) and northern out‑bases, focusing on efficient fleet utilisation, resource planning and cost control while maintaining compliance and effectiveness.
- Act as the site expert for legal compliance and safety, ensuring ongoing safe and lawful operation of all sites.
- Identify opportunities for improved efficiencies within the Transport function, recommend and implement changes, and share best practices across the network of hubs.
- Resourcing, development and management of all colleagues within the team.
- Make prompt decisions that protect customer service, the delivery schedule and remain commercially focused.
Ideal Candidate
- At least 3 years’ experience as a Transport Manager in a medium/large‑scale transport operation.
- Demonstrable experience improving transport operations and introducing operational excellence.
- Strong knowledge of Road Transport Regulations, Health & Safety, fleet compliance and working time directives.
- Hold a national CPC.
- Demonstrable commercial and financial acumen.
- Strong people skills – able to influence, coach and develop.
- Full UK driving licence.
