6 month contract, hybrid working (2 days per week on site in London). Day rate up to £650, inside IR35.

An established engineering function is looking for a Java Engineer to support the development of large, highly available platforms serving a significant user base. You will be working in a cloud focused, microservices driven environment, contributing to the evolution of critical backend services.

The role:

  • Design and build scalable backend applications using modern Java (up to Java 21).
  • Develop microservices with Spring Boot and associated frameworks.
  • Work extensively with PostGres databases.
  • Create and maintain REST APIs and event based integrations.
  • Apply test driven development practices, with a strong emphasis on unit testing and code quality.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, QA, and Product teams to deliver robust solutions.
  • Deploy and operate services in AWS using tools such as Lambda, ECS, S3, CloudFormation, and Kubernetes for container orchestration.

About you:

  • Strong commercial background in Java and Spring Boot development.
  • Solid experience building and supporting microservices architectures.
  • Hands on experience with PostGres.
  • Experience working in cloud environments, preferably AWS.
  • Good working knowledge of Kubernetes and containerised applications.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
  • Strong understanding of TDD and modern testing practices.
  • Comfortable working in Agile teams with a hybrid working model.
  • Clear communicator who works well in collaborative environments.
