We are recruiting for both permanent and fixed-term opportunities across a variety of projects.
These range from long-term performance-focused software platforms through to business transformation initiatives aimed at improving engineering and operational workflows across Mc Laren Racing.
The Role
The purpose of this role is to analyse, design, and engineer innovative software solutions aligned to the needs of Mc Laren Racing.
As a senior member of the development team, you will provide technical leadership across multiple projects, contribute to wider engineering initiatives, and support the development of less experienced engineers.
The Software & Data Science department is responsible for designing and delivering bespoke software platforms and tools that support every stage of the Formula 1 lifecycle, from aerodynamic development and simulation through to trackside decision-making and race strategy.
We bring together software engineering, data science, machine learning, and Dev Ops expertise to deliver performance-focused solutions.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in the design and delivery of software solutions, working closely with stakeholders across the business while providing technical guidance and support to colleagues where needed.
The role is primarily based at the Mc Laren Technology Centre, with a blend of onsite and remote working.
Due to the nature of Formula 1 operations, occasional out-of-hours and weekend support may be required.
What You'll Do
- Contribute to the team's technical roadmap and support long-term planning while remaining adaptable to changing business priorities.
- Lead the full software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support.
- Take ownership of technical projects, delivering high-quality solutions on time and to budget.
- Capture and understand business requirements and translate them into robust, scalable software architectures.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, product stakeholders, and business users across Mc Laren Racing.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to other engineers.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks while driving continuous improvement.
- Produce reliable effort estimates and communicate progress clearly to stakeholders.
- Contribute to engineering best practices, standards, and development methodologies.

We are looking for experienced Senior Specialist Software Engineers to join our Software & Data Science team and help deliver high-quality software solutions that support our Formula 1 operation.
Qualifications
- What You'll Bring
- Strong commercial experience in full stack software development using C#/. NET, with working knowledge of Python and Type Script.
- Experience delivering software solutions using agile methodologies and software engineering best practices.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design and software engineering principles, including SOLID principles, with the ability to develop maintainable and scalable solutions.
- Proven ability to analyse complex technical problems, identify practical solutions and make sound engineering decisions.
- Comfortable working autonomously, taking ownership of workstreams and driving delivery with minimal supervision.
- Strong understanding of Git-based development workflows, Azure Dev Ops (or similar), and SQL or document databases.
- Knowledge of modern software architecture and engineering practices.
Experience with cloud platforms, microservices, Kubernetes, Kafka, stream processing or React would be advantageous.
- Experience providing technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and informal mentoring to other engineers.
- For the fixed-term opportunity, experience joining complex environments quickly and contributing to project or transformation-focused delivery teams would be beneficial.
