Purpose of the Role

You will support the Senior Manager, Financial Control and wider Financial Control team in delivering effective financial control across the business, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of financial information. This role is a key member of the Central Finance team, responsible for driving high-quality execution of the Record to Report (R2R) process and ensuring the integrity of financial results. This role requires technical accounting skills, the ability to independently manage month‑end activities, and the confidence to partner with stakeholders across the business. They will additionally contribute towards process optimisation and control enhancement.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Take accountability for ensuring the majority of month end close runs smoothly, including:
    • Prepare and post complex journal entries, such as accruals, lease liabilities.
    • Ensure accuracy and compliance, with the ability to be a point of escalation and resolve issues independently.
    • Lead assigned areas to support the timely completion of the month‑end close in line with internal deadlines and controls.
    • First preparation and review of the BU P&L and BS reporting, being able to explain movements within GL codes and confirm balances are complete and accurate.
  • Maintain balance sheet governance through completion of complex balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all accounts are fully supported, accurate, and compliant with internal policies.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciling items, escalating issues where necessary.
  • Lead smaller projects to strengthen the financial governance of R2R processes, identifying opportunities to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and strengthen controls.
  • Support the implementation of new systems, tools, or reporting enhancements within the finance function.
  • Act as a point of contact for process and technical finance queries and provide guidance.
  • Work with the business units to provide insight to the business units from the P&L data.
  • Organise the finance policies and processes in a logical way, reporting to senior management on deadlines for reviews and compliance failures.
  • Be the provider of technical accounting updates to the finance team on a routine, providing impact of changes, under FRS 102 and IFRS.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Working towards or part-qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA. Audit experience would be a benefit, but not essential.
  • Strong grounding in financial accounting, with a solid understanding of accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, and month end processes.
  • Experience preparing balance sheet reconciliations for complex accounts is beneficial.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and processes that are undergoing improvement and changes.
  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret financial data and articulate insights clearly.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proactive mindset and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • High attention to detail with strong organisational and time‑management skills.
  • A track record of getting things done against tight deadlines.
  • Competent IT skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
