Purpose of the Role: The Trackside IT Infrastructure Engineer role is to provide support up to and including 3rd line to trackside Racing users, Mission Control user, and to setup the trackside network and infrastructure for a race weekend. There will be requirements to travel and support test and race events throughout the race calendar, as well as supporting race weekends from Mission Control. You will support and ensure the stable operation of the Trackside hardware and software required for a race or test event including server, storage, workstation and networking. During the off season, the role will involve implementing any infrastructure and/or network upgrade and refresh requirements.

Role Dimensions: The role will require close collaboration with colleagues in Racing, IT, and the wider businesses. The ability to work with project managers and architects in delivering service improvements. There will be requirements to work with external suppliers and partners. The role covers assisting with the design and installation of various types of server, storage, software, voice and communication links at Track. The role requires weekend working and time shifting to fit around Race/Test Events, along with travelling with the team to set up and support the race events.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Setup and configure the trackside environment prior to a race weekend.
  • Point of contact for Trackside personnel. An ability to work and prioritise within a high pressure, time sensitive environment is essential.
  • Build, manage & support servers from a hardware and OS perspective, including active directory, clustering, storage, file and print and their associated operating systems and software.
  • Support and manage security solutions, proxy, anti-virus, and custom applications.
  • Support and manage network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches and UPSs.
  • Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
  • Ensure network connectivity of all workstations and user laptops.
  • Perform equipment, hardware and software upgrades.
  • Monitor and test server and network performance and provide performance statistics and reports.
  • Recommend, schedule and perform server and network improvements, upgrades and repairs.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced members of the team.
  • Using strong technical skills that span across a breadth of technology areas to find solutions to both typical and unconventional problems.
  • Analysing root causes to ensure permanent resolution where possible.
  • Taking ownership of end user issues with a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Tactical decisions to implement initiatives to 'get things done'.
  • Ability to absorb complex technical information and communicate effectively at all levels to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive previous experience in complex organisations and IT Support with an in-depth knowledge of the following areas:
  • Experience tackling complex technical faults working with cross functional teams.
  • Cat5e/6/7 cabling structures.
  • Single and multimode fibre backbone cable installations.
  • Cisco CLI switch configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Profound working knowledge of the entire Microsoft Office 365 suite.
  • In-depth understanding and experience with Server and Client OSs.
  • Experience with enterprise level infrastructure such as AD, Windows Server, Hyper-V, SSO, SCCM, Group Policy and Security.
  • Strong networking understanding: cabling, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, LAN, WAN, Cisco Meraki.
  • Understanding of ITIL and Service Management good practice framework.
  • MCP/MCITP/CCNA certified desirable.
