Purpose of the Role:

The purpose of this role is to support the publishing and creation of content across McLaren Formula 1’s social media channels, with a focus on delivering against our business objectives, ultimately driving continuous engagement and channel growth.

You will support the team in ensuring our social media channels are active daily, from a regular publishing cadence and community management to proactively ideating and creating short-form video content.

Role Dimensions:

You will report into the social media manager and be a part of McLaren Racing’s wider digital team, providing you with the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from the best professionals in their respective fields in Formula 1.

This role provides hybrid working but requires you to be at the McLaren Technology Centre (Woking, UK) at least three days per week (except for when traveling for grands prix) to capitilise on content capture opportunities and collaboration with colleagues.

McLaren operates in a fast-paced, high-performance environment, and the nature of racing on weekends and working in social media means regularly working during unsocial hours including worldwide travel.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Publishing of content across all social media channels in line with McLaren’s overarching social media strategy.
  • Hands-on creation of content for all McLaren F1 social channels, including but not limited to, phone capture, photography, photo and video editing, graphics preparation and copywriting.
  • Proactively ideating and creating short-form video content tailored to individual platforms.
  • Actively participate in community management across all social channels.
  • Be at the heart of content ideation, collaborating with the wider digital team and external freelancers to deliver engaging content to fans.
  • Adhere to team processes, guidelines and policies set by McLaren Racing.
  • Enforce and maintain McLaren’s tone of voice across all channels.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in social media publishing and community engagement at a professional sports team.
  • On the ground experience operating in a high-pressure live sports environment is desirable.
  • Proficient use of Abobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Lightroom.
  • Strong copywriting, proofreading and editing skills, demonstrating a clear understanding of social media tone of voice.
  • Demonstrable passion for social media community engagement and an understanding of the role that social media plays in sports fan engagement.
  • A demonstrable interest and understanding of Formula 1 is essential.
  • Proficient social media platform knowledge, including an understanding of best practices across every social media channel.
  • Strong proactive communication skills, from verbal to email and instant messaging.
  • Demonstrable ability to identify and execute on social media trends.
  • Experience working in a similar role in motorsport is helpful, but not essential.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking. Here at McLaren, we offer hybrid working with 3 days a week based in the MTC.
