Principal Accountabilities
- Take a lead role in Vehicle Model correlation across Technical, supporting the Head of Vehicle Modelling.
- Ensure suspension model fidelity options across each subsystem (e.g. bearing stiffness, component stiffness, upright flexibility).
- Deliver world class model correlation & functionality, supporting the next level driver model in lap simulation.
- Develop the grounding model to improve skid wear & stability impact prediction.
- Support the implementation of lateral and yaw dynamics in vehicle models, in collaboration with the Tyre team.
- Implement track model improvement for dynamic lap simulations.
- Develop world class vehicle & sub-system models.
- Generate clear and well-documented code.
- Identify, quantify & action vehicle model opportunities through experience or data analysis.
- Feedback observations to the department that aid car performance development.
Role Dimensions
This role sits within the Performance Group, in the Vehicle Modelling team. This role will support with mentoring and support for junior staff. This role reports directly to the Head of Vehicle Modelling.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Ideally a Masters degree or PhD in Engineering, Physics or Applied Mathematics (or similar).
- Strong knowledge and conceptual understanding of vehicle physics.
- Objective, data driven approach to analysis.
- Deep awareness of relevant simulation techniques & considerations.
- Extensive experience of vehicle sub-system modelling in F1, motorsport or a related field.
- Strong skills in data analysis, applied mathematics and dynamical systems.
- Experienced user of: (Required) Matlab and Mathworks toolchain, Vehicle Dynamics simulation tools, ATLAS 10 or similar analysis tools. (Preferred) C/C++ and Python.
