The Role

As an Engineering Manager at Your Parking Space (YPS), you will be a strategic leader responsible for the growth, health, and output of our engineering organization. This is a manager of managers role; you will oversee multiple squads, mentoring Lead Engineers and ensuring that our technical roadmap aligns with high-level business objectives. You will be joining at a critical juncture as we modernize our core platform into a scalable, service-oriented architecture while maintaining the stability of our revenue-generating systems. You are expected to balance people leadership with high-level technical oversight of our PHP/Laravel and AWS ecosystem. This is an opportunity to take ownership of a significant technical transformation. You won’t just be managing "maintenance"; you will be the driving force behind the next evolution of our commercial parking platform.

How To Make An Impact

  • Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and coach multiple engineering teams and their respective leads. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and pragmatic problem-solving.
  • Strategic Modernization: Partner with the Head of Engineering/CTO to transition systems into a modern, observable microservices architecture.
  • Operational Excellence: Improve system observability and automated reporting to transition the team from a reactive to a proactive state.
  • Resource & Capacity Planning: Manage engineering headcount and allocate resources effectively across competing priorities, such as technical debt reduction vs. new commercial feature delivery.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Collaborate with Product, Sales, Marketing and Finance to ensure technical deliverables meet commercial requirements and generate immediate business value.
  • Delivery Management: Oversee timeboxed discovery phases and ensure the "Definition of Done" is met for complex migrations, such as payment integrations or platform sunsets.

About You

  • Core Stack: Extensive experience with PHP and Laravel within a high-traffic, commercial environment.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Deep understanding of AWS (multiple accounts, environments, and service decoupling).
  • Architecture: Proven track record of managing Microservices architectures and the decoupling of monolithic systems.
  • Tools & Methodologies: Experience with CI/CD pipelines, ETL pipelines for financial reporting, and advanced observability tools.

Your background

  • Experience: 5+ years in a senior engineering leadership role, specifically managing other managers or multiple cross-disciplinary squads.
  • Pragmatism: Ability to make "pragmatic" decisions that balance long-term technical health with the immediate revenue needs of a growing business.
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex technical challenges into clear business risks and opportunities for the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
  • Resilience: Comfortable leading teams through organizational pivots, project sunsets, and high-pressure stability issues.
