PSV Mechanic

Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of Arriva The Shires Limited's Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) to ensure their roadworthiness, safety, and operational efficiency, working on a shift basis.

Pay & Hours:

  • Full-time | 5 out of 7 shift rota (mornings, afternoons & late shifts)
  • Pay rate: £26.35 per hour ¬ £54808 per annum

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance checks, services, and inspections on PSVs in accordance with company standards and VOSA (now DVSA) regulations.
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic faults efficiently and effectively, utilising diagnostic equipment where necessary.
  • Carry out repairs to engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, suspension, and other vehicle components.
  • Conduct MOT preparation and present vehicles for inspection.
  • Complete all necessary documentation accurately and on time, including job cards, defect reports, and maintenance records.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Work collaboratively with other technicians and workshop staff.
  • Participate in on-call rotas or emergency breakdown assistance as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work environment.
  • Order and manage parts inventory as needed.

Job Qualifications:

  • Recognised qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • Proven experience as a PSV/HGV Mechanic or Technician, preferably within a bus or coach environment.
  • Full UK Driving Licence, with a clean record; PCV (D category) entitlement is highly desirable.
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across a range of vehicle systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.
  • Knowledge of VOSA/DVSA regulations and legal requirements pertaining to PSVs.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and workshop equipment.
