We are currently recruiting for a qualified and motivated Engineering Chargehand to join our team at Hemel Hempstead. This is a key leadership role within the engineering department, responsible for maintaining fleet reliability and supporting the depot’s day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support a team of engineers and fitters to ensure all maintenance and repair tasks are completed safely and efficiently
- Carry out diagnostics, inspections, and repairs on PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) fleet vehicles
- Allocate workloads and monitor performance to meet service and safety standards
- Ensure compliance with DVSA standards and health & safety regulations
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and input into the depot’s engineering systems
- Support the Engineering Manager with team development, including training apprentices and mentoring staff
What We’re Looking For
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
- Proven experience in a similar supervisory or lead technician role
- In-depth knowledge of PCV or HGV mechanical systems
- Good communication and team leadership skills
- Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and early/late shifts
- PCV licence is desirable but not essential

- Overtime paid at £39.00 per hour (time and a half)
- Weekly hours based on a 5/7 day rota
- Initial Monday–Friday shift pattern (5:00am to 1:30am, rotating shifts)
