As a Master Technician, you’ll serve as the technical focal point within the depot – providing in-depth diagnostics, leading fault resolution, and supporting both the Engineering Manager and on-site engineers. You will specialise in resolving complex mechanical and electrical issues, particularly in engine systems, gearboxes, axles, CAN lines, Euro 5/6 emissions systems, and hybrid/high-voltage vehicle technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the depot’s complex diagnostics and repairs across mechanical and electrical systems
- Act as the go-to expert for OBD diagnostics and advanced fault finding
- Carry out and guide repairs on engines, axles, gearboxes, emissions systems, electrical faults and hybrid components
- Support, mentor, and develop engineers and apprentices in diagnostic techniques
- Liaise directly with the Engineering Manager and Technical Manager on high-level technical matters
- Lead technical campaigns, fleet checks, and engineering trials
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with OEMs, suppliers, and manufacturers
What We’re Looking For:
- NVQ Level 3 in relevant motor vehicle or engineering discipline
- Strong experience with diagnostic software (e.g., Cummins Insite, Volvo Tech Tool, ACTIA, WABCO, Xentry)
- PCV License
- EV Bus Experience
- Excellent understanding of electrical systems (including alternators, wiring harnesses, control units)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
- Flexible, solutions-focused approach with the ability to adapt to evolving priorities
- Valid UK driving licence (max 6 points)
- Willingness to undergo and pass a PCV medical
- Familiarity with DVSA/Operating Licence requirements
