Working Hours: Rota basis, you must be able to work shifts as working times vary, start times can be as early as 0500, finish times could be 23:30 so you would need to be flexible. Rosters are usually provided in advance therefore you can plan ahead!

The Role: As a Senior Conductor, safety is at the forefront of everything you do. You will be responsible for undertaking Train Guard responsibilities in line with industry and company standards, rules and policies in a safe, punctual manner. You will lead the on-train team to ensure exceptional customer service is delivered daily, even when things don’t quite go to plan! The Senior Conductor Training Programme includes modules on rules and regulations, route learning, fire safety and track safety, followed by ongoing training and assessments. The first 6 weeks will consist of a classroom learning approach of the theory, followed by practical learning under the guidance of a Senior Conductor Mentor during which you will be regularly assessed to develop and maintain competence.
What You’ll Do:
- Revenue Duties – selling and checking tickets and travel documents
- Delivering exceptional customer service - ensuring our customers have a safe, comfortable and memorable journey and resolving issues promptly where we can
- Ensuring personal safety and that of others at all times
- Comply with all relevant rules, procedures and policies
- Undergo competence/proficiency assessments as required by company procedures and the Safety Management System (SMS)
- Manage on-train requirements such as seat reservations, ensuring appropriate train presentation, timely and appropriate on-train customer announcements
- Ensuring having received and understood any notices, bulletins or other information relating to the job and where required, confirm receipt of these in the prescribed manner (usually on a tablet device)
- Communicate effectively with and assist staff and customers in the interests of safety and customer service
What You Bring: To be successful in the role, you will need to be highly motivated and proactive with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. Previous experience of providing excellent customer service and cash management is an essential attribute for this role. You must also be able to demonstrate that you can work as part of a team. You don’t need any previous conductor experience to apply as we offer full training as part of the role. To be successful during the training period you’ll need to have a willingness to learn, both during working hours and at home too, as it’s an intense course requiring 100% commitment from you. In return, our Training Team will give you all of the support and encouragement you need to succeed at the ongoing assessments and knowledge checks.
In your role as a Senior Conductor, you will work shifts from the early hours of the morning until late at night, weekends and Bank Holidays. You will work an average of 35 hours per week and receive your rosters in advance. You will also be required to lodge on occasion in London overnight.
To be eligible to apply, you must:
- Be able to comply with the relevant Rail Industry Standard for the role.
- Currently reside within 60 minutes drive of the depot
- Pass a Rail Safety Medical
