Are you passionate about Safety? Do you have the enthusiasm and drive to ensure the safe operation of GC by training and supporting traincrew?

We have an exciting opening for an Operations and Safety Specialist. We are looking for someone who can impart their knowledge and enthusiasm to an audience of front-line train crew. You will design and deliver operational safety training courses and briefings, provide ongoing support in the development of our traincrew through our competence assessment process and contribute your expertise to our Safety Management System.

You will be a confident communicator, self-motivated and committed to ensuring our customers’ Safety is of paramount importance. You will already be a leader or one in the making. Ideally you will have a wealth of experience to bring to this role, but attitude is the most important.

What will I be doing as a Operations and Safety Specialist?

  • Design and deliver onboard operational training programmes effectively.

  • Produce training packages that can be adopted and effectively used by other GC trainers.

  • Lead the development of operational route safety and efficiency requirements, e.g train dispatch risk assessment

  • Provide technical support and when required GC representation on operational projects

  • Support and pro-actively contribute to the overall GC operation, business plan and Safety Management System.

  • Collate local departmental safety performance information and support the production of GC company wide safety performance report

  • Ensure that investigation reports, accident forms and other related documentation are obtained from managers and traincrew, and where necessary undertake local investigations.

  • Support line managers on the compliance and delivery of the GC Competence Management System (CMS).

  • Support the wider business on Safety and Operational training and briefing requirements.

  • Undertake operational on call duties as and when required.

What will I need to be successful as a Operations and Safety Specialist?

  • NEBOSH certificate or equivalent

  • Knowledge of operations rules, regulations , instructions including company policies and standards for safe operations

  • Qualified Train Guard

  • Good decision maker, excellent organisational and communication skills and ability to work well under pressure

  • Ability to self-manage and use initiative when required

  • Team-orientated, flexible approach and customer focussed

  • Industry recognised accident/ incident investigation and root cause analysis is desirable

  • Industry recognised training qualification is desirable

Previous experience working within the rail industry is advantageous however not essential for this role as full training will be provided for the successful candidate.
