Operating within the Arriva Corporate Centre based in Sunderland, the International Tax Team provides tax advice and support to Arriva’s overseas businesses and are responsible for various Group Tax positions, processes, and projects. We are looking for an International Tax Manager to join our Tax Team to cover maternity leave for up to 12 months on a full-time basis.

The position of International Tax Manager, working within the International Tax Team, will have a broad scope and involve a variety of regular responsibilities as well as ad-hoc projects across the Arriva Group.

Key responsibilities of the role (other duties may be assigned):
  • Reviewing the quarterly and year-end tax reporting positions adopted by the Arriva businesses and explaining those positions to senior management teams.
  • Working closely with local finance teams and third-party tax advisors in connection with adopted tax positions and forecasts across nine overseas countries.
  • Supporting the Group's ambitious growth agenda, working alongside M&A colleagues and external advisors to assess the tax risks, opportunities and structuring of acquisitions across numerous countries.
  • Working closely with local finance teams to manage projects incorporating tax sensitivities including the management and approach to tax audits.
  • Management of varied international tax reporting deliverables e.g. BEPS, CbCR, including establishing processes for new international reporting requirements such as Pillar 2.
  • Leading on Transfer Pricing projects and ensuring timely delivery of the relevant transfer pricing related documentation to Arriva businesses and tax authorities across Europe.
  • Leading in relation to the taxation position on cross-border or overseas projects (e.g. reorganisations, mergers, transfer pricing and other tax matters including Global Mobility).
  • Providing tax support in connection with internal Treasury matters.
  • Working with third-party tax advisors on complex tax issues.

Arriva is looking for someone with strong corporate tax and tax accounting credentials, preferably including prior experience in M&A, tax reporting under IFRS, international tax reporting and transfer pricing. Any candidate should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills as this post requires collaboration and communication with a number of key and senior stakeholders across the group.

Knowledge, skills and experience:
  • Education & Professional Qualifications: Minimum undergraduate degree. A recognised accounting qualification is preferred e.g., CIMA, ACCA, ACA, CTA.
  • Experience & Background: A minimum of 3+ years’ post qualification experience in tax either in practice or in-house.
  • Business Skills & Knowledge: Broad experience in corporate tax. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to quickly establish effective relationships both internally and externally at all levels in the organisation.
