ESG Reporting Lead – Doxford, SR3 3XP

Arriva is a leading provider of passenger transport across Europe, employing around 34,400 people and delivering around 1.6 billion passenger journeys. With buses, trains, coaches, trams, waterbuses, bike-sharing systems, on-demand transport solutions and a rolling stock leasing company, Arriva proudly connects people and communities safely, reliably and sustainably across 11 countries, delivering these services in a better way, every day.

We have strong roots dating back to 1938, an ambitious growth agenda, and a continuously developing relationship with our new shareholder I Squared Capital who acquired Arriva in May 2024.

At the heart of Arriva is an ambition to make passenger transport the best choice as we look to connect people within our local communities to all the things that are important to them – safely, reliably, and sustainably.

We are now looking for an experienced ESG Reporting Lead to ensure our reporting processes are robust, transparent, and aligned with evolving global sustainability regulations.

Reporting to the ESG Director, this role is crucial in ensuring that Arriva remains fully compliant with all relevant ESG-related legislation and disclosure frameworks. The successful candidate will oversee the management of the ESG Register, ensure alignment with key reporting regulations (e.g., CSRD, TCFD, GRI, SASB), and provide strategic insights on emerging regulatory risks and opportunities.

This is an exciting opportunity for a compliance-driven ESG professional to play a key role in shaping Arriva’s sustainability reporting and regulatory adherence across multiple markets.

The role has a flexible working location across our Arriva Business Units, operating on a full-time basis Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week with one hour lunch per day.

Direct responsibilities of the role:

  • Lead the creation, implementation, and ongoing management of the ESG Register, ensuring the ESG office captures all essential data accurately and supports the organisation’s compliance and reporting needs.
  • Monitor, interpret, and apply relevant ESG regulations (such as CSRD, TCFD, GRI, SASB) to ensure the organisation meets all compliance standards across local and global reporting frameworks.
  • Proactively assess regulatory developments and advise the ESG Director and leadership teams on their potential impact.
  • Coordinate with departments such as Legal, Finance, and Operations to gather required information, align on reporting needs, and work with ESG Data Lead to ensure data quality for all ESG disclosures.
  • Working with the ESG Data Lead to integrate ESG data from all Business Units, ensuring consistency and accuracy in alignment with the ESG Register and reporting standards.
  • Provide guidance for reporting, ensuring that all Business Units follow a cohesive format that aligns with CSRD and other regulatory requirements.
  • Regularly review and assess ESG data submissions to ensure full compliance, addressing gaps or inconsistencies proactively.
  • Offer ongoing support, training, and guidance to Business Units on ESG reporting requirements, ensuring clarity in data submission processes and standards.

What we'd like from you!

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in ESG regulatory compliance, risk management, and sustainability reporting. They will be confident in navigating evolving ESG legislation and have a strategic mindset to ensure Arriva remains ahead of compliance risks and obligations.

Candidates will also:

  • Have an in-depth understanding of Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and other key ESG reporting frameworks (TCFD, GRI, SASB).
  • Possess prior experience in ESG compliance, regulatory affairs, or sustainability reporting within a corporate or consulting environment.
  • Be familiar of greenhouse gas Science-Based Target Initiatives (SBTi)
  • Be skilled in consolidating ESG data and insights from all Business Units, transforming them into cohesive, comprehensive reports, and redistributing tailored information effectively at both the group and individual unit levels to support targeted action and alignment.
  • Have strong skills in communicating ESG results to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Be detail orientated and highly accurate when executing their work, as this is crucial for ensuring compliance and reliability in ESG disclosures.
  • Have experience managing reporting timelines and collaborating with multiple departments to meet project deadlines and ensure quality reports.
  • Be proficient in report generation and presentation tools; familiarity with ESG-specific software and platforms is advantageous.
  • Be a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, business acumen, and commercial awareness.
  • Have knowledge of ESG metrics and their relevance to the organisation’s operations and reporting obligations.
  • Be able to recognise potential risks linked to reporting, and formulating strategies to mitigate them effectively.
  • Stay up-to-date with developments in sustainability reporting regulations and standards.
  • Show alignment to our Arriva values: caring passionately, doing the right thing and making a difference.

The role will involve some travel so candidates must be willing to undertake such travel as part of the role.

What we can offer you in addition to a competitive base salary:

  • Company car or car cash allowance
  • Discretionary bonus scheme, dependent upon company performance and personal performance
  • True hybrid working – a minimum of 2 days per week in the office, the rest focusing on where you can best deliver for your customers, whilst still allowing for the required work life balance
  • A generous pension plan
  • Life Assurance equal to 2 x your annual salary, plus access to one of the UK’s largest networks of medical professionals
  • 25 days holidays and statutory bank holidays per year, with the opportunity to purchase holiday. Please note the window for 2024 holiday purchase is now closed and therefore the ability to purchase will commence for holiday year 2025
