This job description sets out the main duties and responsibilities of the job-holder. It does not constitute an exhaustive or comprehensive description of duties and the job holder will be required to carry out any additional tasks as and when requested to do so by their manager. Responsibilities and duties may also change in light of future business needs and personal development.

  • Be the designated person, when on site, for ensuring depot security and ensuring adherence by all team members for all matters relating to safe working practices and environment.
  • Work to the instructions of the Site Manager & Engineering Manager, undertake all work as outlined in the Leader Standard Work document and other tasks as required.
  • Lead and provide immediate supervision to the team to ensure they undertake the efficient and safe servicing, maintenance, repair, overhaul and cleaning of vehicles and components to set specifications.
  • Identify, forward plan and allocate workload, to ensure it is balanced and presented at the correct time. Liaise with other AEMs to determine work priorities and identify best practice to ensure service and KPI targets are met.
  • Ensure adherence of the team to working instructions, health & safety regulations, quality procedures and environmental systems.
  • Ensure necessary resources are available to the team at the required time; e.g. parts, consumables, tooling, equipment.
  • Ensure work documentation is issued and records are correctly compiled, signed off and maintained.
  • Provide verbal and/or written reports to Engineering Manager as required. Undertake team and shift briefings and handovers using Team Talk Boards effectively.
  • Root cause and target areas of improvement within fleet reliability by focusing on breakdown reduction, planned maintenance, MDBF and lost mileage.
  • Work with the Site & Engineering Manager to manage engineering costs in the depot / garage whilst increasing the efficiency and capability of their engineering team.

Health & Safety:

  • Ensure that all staff within the garage fully understand and comply with company and statutory requirements in terms of Health & Safety and operating procedures.
  • Be the designated person, when on site, for ensuring depot security and ensuring adherence by all team members for all matters relating to safe working practices and environment.
  • Ensure adherence of the team to working instructions, health & safety regulations, quality procedures and environmental systems, and inspire continual review, improvement and development of the standard operations, processes, systems and product.
  • Monitor contractor sign-in and safety working practices.

Customer:

  • To ensure that the depot peak vehicle requirement is achieved on a daily basis and to ensure that all vehicles supplied for service are cleaned and maintained to a high standard that exceeds the statutory requirements set out by DVSA.

Quality:

  • Assisting the Engineering Manager in ensuring necessary vehicle availability to meet contractual obligations whilst guaranteeing that all vehicles are maintained to the statutory requirements set out by DVSA.
  • Ensure work documentation is issued and records are correctly compiled, signed off and maintained.
  • Supervising all mechanical and electrical engineers within the Engineering function, identifying training needs and technical competencies.
  • Ensuring technical staff are held responsible for the work they produce and encouraging a culture of individual and team ownership of all quality processes.

People:

  • Manage and support all aspects of staff management including recruitment and on-boarding, performance management and reviews, development, skills gap analysis, technical competencies, ER matters (relating to sickness, absences, grievances, disciplinary, etc), contract hours, rosters, leave arrangements, etc, in line with policies and procedures. Liaise with the Engineering Manager and escalate as necessary.
  • Ensuring all staff adhere to Company policies, procedures and formal Union agreements.
  • Ensure communication/comments from staff are considered, acted upon if applicable and communicated back.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Reducing waste and supporting Continuous Improvement and increased efficiency wherever possible.
