We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Assistant Engineering Manager to join the Arriva Leicester team. In this key leadership role, you will support the Garage Engineering Manager in running a safe, efficient, and high-performing workshop. You’ll play a vital part in ensuring fleet availability meets PVR requirements at all times, while operating within budget and delivering against core KPIs and regulatory standards.

Main Responsibilities:
- Act as the designated on‑site lead for depot security, health & safety, and safe working practices.
- Support the Engineering Manager by working to the Leader Standard Work and carrying out additional tasks as required.
- Lead and supervise workshop teams to ensure the safe and efficient servicing, maintenance, repair, overhaul, and cleaning of vehicles and components.
- Plan, allocate, and balance workload to ensure work is delivered at the right time and to specification.
- Liaise with Working Chargehands to maintain on‑road engineering performance within agreed targets, ensuring clear communication and accurate data capture.
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety legislation, quality procedures, and environmental systems.
About You:
- A strong engineering background with proven experience in maintenance, repair, and overhaul of heavy vehicles, equipment, or machinery.
- Ideally, experience within the bus or HGV industry.
- A recognised engineering apprenticeship or vocational qualification (mechanical, electrical, or similar), or qualification to degree/diploma level in engineering or vehicle maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of Health & Safety, leading by example (IOSH desirable).
- The ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team, creating a safe, positive, and high‑performing working environment.
