PSV Mechanic responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of Arriva The Shires Limited’s Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) to ensure their roadworthiness, safety, and operational efficiency, working on a shift basis.
Pay & Hours
- Full‑time | 5 out of 7 shift rota (mornings, afternoons & late shifts)
- Pay rate: £26.35 per hour / £54,808 per annum
Job Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventive maintenance checks, services, and inspections on PSVs in accordance with company standards and VOSA (now DVSA) regulations.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic faults efficiently and effectively, utilising diagnostic equipment where necessary.
- Carry out repairs to engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, suspension, and other vehicle components.
- Conduct MOT preparation and present vehicles for inspection.
- Complete all necessary documentation accurately and on time, including job cards, defect reports, and maintenance records.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Work collaboratively with other technicians and workshop staff.
- Participate in on-call rotas or emergency breakdown assistance as required.
- Maintain a clean and organised work environment.
- Order and manage parts inventory as needed.
Job Qualifications
- Recognised qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
- Proven experience as a PSV/HGV mechanic or technician, preferably within a bus or coach environment.
- Full UK Driving Licence, with a clean record; PCV (D category) entitlement is highly desirable.
- Strong diagnostic and fault‑finding skills across a range of vehicle systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high‑quality workmanship.
- Knowledge of VOSA/DVSA regulations and legal requirements pertaining to PSVs.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and workshop equipment.
