Rail Services Compliance and Risk Manager – Hybrid working option with travel across the businesses. Reporting to: ESG Director – Rail Services. Contract: Permanent. The Rail Services division supports our four business areas of Grand Central (GC), Arriva TrainCare (ATC), Arriva Road Transport Services (ARTS) and RTS. We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Arriva team as a Compliance and Risk Manager to help support our Rail Services Businesses.
As a Compliance and Risk Manager you will lead the reporting, standardisation and coordination of compliance processes and risk controls for each of our businesses to ensure that we manage risk and compliance, consistently, effectively and efficiently across Rail Services. You will also undertake the role of Data Protection Champion across Rail Services.
The Role – Compliance and Risk Manager
- Ensure that Rail Services have a single approach to corporate confidence, risk management, audits, CMS, and other compliance matters.
- Ensure the implementation of, and adherence to, standardised controls and standards across Rail Services, escalating any non-compliance in a timely fashion.
- Act as the key conduit between Arriva Group Compliance & Assurance, Arriva UK Trains and the businesses.
- Providing feedback and sharing best practices regarding policies, standards, guidance, and their implementation.
- Provide subject matter expertise on data protection and retention, acting as Data Protection Champion.
- Undertake regular assurance exercises across Rail Services and provide subject matter expertise to colleagues in these businesses.
- Lead on risk register update sessions and support with risk identification and management upskilling.
- Provision of support across Rail Services governance activities as required.
- Lead the development of training and awareness materials for Rail Services on priority risk areas and drive a continuous improvement agenda to help raise the level of compliance knowledge across the businesses.
- Respond to employee queries regarding compliance matters promptly including incidents.
- Monitor maturity progress against all in scope policies.
- Ensure timely completion of e-learning modules and follow up on any outstanding e-learning compliance training.
- Review and update compliance registers (anti-bribery, conflicts of interest, contact register).
- Work with our Internal Comms Manager to ensure timely and regular communications to Rail Services employees on key compliance topics and policies.

- The successful candidate must have a passion for continuous improvement and be a change agent who will be constantly looking for new and innovative ways of delivering the compliance agenda at Arriva.
- A willingness to travel and engage widely throughout the business will be an essential part of this role so we ensure that compliance remains embedded in the culture of Rail Services.
- Relevant qualification and previous experience in a similar field.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
- Self-starter who can plan ahead and see their way through ambiguity.
- Broad understanding and experience of corporate compliance and data protection requirements.
- Strong risk management experience.
- Exceptional communication skills – ability to cut through complexity, share information in a timely, clear and focused way.
- Ability to work as a member of a cross discipline and cross functional team.
- Strong stakeholder management, ability to manage and influence remotely, strong relationship and business partner skills essential.
- A strong collaborator working across all Rail Services Businesses as well as UKT and Group.
