We’re now looking for a motivated and experienced Assistant Engineering Manager to join our London team. This is a key leadership role where you’ll help ensure our fleet remains safe, reliable, and ready to meet the demands of one of the world’s busiest transport networks.
About the Role
As Assistant Engineering Manager, you’ll be at the centre of our London operations—leading workshop teams, maintaining high engineering standards, and ensuring our vehicles are always ready for service. You’ll bring together technical expertise and leadership to support a fast‑paced, high‑demand urban network where reliability and safety are critical.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Oversee daily workshop operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and cost control
- Maximise fleet availability to support consistent service across London routes
- Ensure rapid response to breakdowns and defects, minimising disruption in a busy city environment
- Maintain high standards of repair, MOT preparation, and compliance
- Carry out quality audits and ensure all maintenance records are accurate and up to date
- Work closely with operational teams to manage vehicle allocation and availability
- Lead on Health & Safety, promoting a strong safety-first culture
- Supervise, motivate, and develop your team to perform at their best
- Remain hands‑on when required, supporting with mechanical, electrical, and servicing work
What We’re Looking For
- Strong engineering experience in vehicle, HGV, or heavy equipment maintenance
- Ideally, experience working in a high-demand, urban transport environment (London experience is a plus)
- A recognised engineering qualification or apprenticeship (mechanical/electrical or equivalent)
- Solid knowledge of Health & Safety practices (IOSH desirable)
- Proven leadership ability with a track record of managing and developing teams
- A proactive, resilient approach suited to a fast‑paced city operation
