As an Assistant Engineering Manager, your role is to assist the Engineering Manager with running an efficient engineering operation and delivering services that keep the garages meeting their PVR requirements. You will work within budget and maintain core KPI and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Be the designated person on site to ensure depot security and adherence to safe working practices by all team members.
- Lead and provide immediate supervision to the team, ensuring efficient and safe servicing, maintenance, repair, overhaul and cleaning of vehicles and components to set specifications.
- Identify, forward‑plan and allocate workload so it is balanced and presented at the correct time.
- Liaise with other Team Leaders to determine work priorities and identify best practice to meet service and KPI targets.
- Ensure necessary resources are available to the team at the required time (parts, consumables, tooling, equipment).
- Root‑cause and target areas of improvement within fleet reliability through breakdown reduction, planned maintenance, MDBF and lost mileage.
- Work with the Engineering Manager to manage engineering costs in the depot/garage while increasing the efficiency and capability of the engineering team.
Requirements:
- A strong engineering background with proven experience in maintenance, repair and overhaul of heavy vehicles, equipment and/or machinery, preferably in the Bus/HGV industry.
- Ideal candidates have completed a recognised apprenticeship or hold a vocational qualification in a relevant mechanical, electrical engineering or similar field; alternatively, a degree or diploma in an engineering/vehicle maintenance discipline.
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety and exemplifies adherence to related policies, practices and procedures.
- Ability to lead and supervise a team, bringing out the best of individuals to ensure a safe and effective working environment.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good interpersonal skills and written communication, and openness to feedback.
- Experience working in partnership with a Trade Union representative.
