Arriva is looking to recruit a PSV Fitter/Engineer to join our engineering team at our Chester Depot in Hawarden to undertake a role preparing and presenting MOT buses to the DVSA for test. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced PSV Engineer who takes pride in high standards of vehicle safety, compliance, and workmanship.
What you will be doing:
- You will carry out inspections and repairs on a fleet of buses ready to then present at a DVSA Testing Station for annual test.
- You will also support our Wrexham Site to prepare MOTs where required and support the workshop in other engineering operations during periods where no MOTs are scheduled.
- Responsibilities include:
- Undertaking a Pre-MOT inspection to Arriva’s high maintenance standards which exceed the DVSA’s standards.
- Carry out any remedial work that was identified during these inspections.
- Complete an annual Fire Risk Assessment on the vehicle to contribute to bringing down thermal incidents.
- Take vehicles to authorised testing stations and presenting them for Annual Test.
- Ensuring that MOT preparation and Presentation contribute positively to Arriva’s OCRS & DVSA Earned Recognition Scheme.
- Assist with other engineering and workshop operations like Rota inspections, defects and breakdowns if required.
- Maintain high standards of safety, quality and documentation always.
What we are looking for:
- Essential:
- A recognised qualification or apprenticeship in PSV/HGV Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (and Electrical if possible).
- Proven experience working on PSV or HGV vehicles.
- Strong understanding of MOT Standard and Vehicle Compliance.
- Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
- Full UK driving licence. Cat D (PCV) is preferred; however, training can be provided to the right candidate.
- A proactive, safety-focused approach with strong attention to detail.
- Experience with electrical systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and teamwork ability.
