We operate a flexible, hybrid working environment with the candidate required to travel to either our Winchester or London Arqiva office up to twice a week.

The Role: Arqiva is growing our core IT Platform Team and we require an expert Linux SME, with a focus on automation. At Arqiva, our project demand for expert RHEL skills has been growing and we are looking for the right person to join us at this incredibly exciting time as we move to new ways of working, from manual deployments to automation pipelines, from monolithic systems to containerization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Linux server administration, scripting, and networking. You will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, and security of Linux systems, supporting both development and production environments.
Responsibilities:
- Project work, it is expected that the Platform Specialist will spend 60% of their time on project deliverables, we are about to embark on a refresh of a crucial virtualisation platform, and this would be a key starter project for the successful candidate.
- Design, develop, and maintain automation scripts and tools to streamline Linux system management, deployment, and configuration tasks.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate the testing, deployment, and release processes for applications and infrastructure.
- Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to identify automation opportunities and implement solutions that improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- Automate the lifecycle management of Linux systems, including provisioning, configuration, patching, and decommissioning.
- Implement automation solutions to manage and maintain large-scale Linux environments, both on-premises and in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Maintain detailed and up-to-date documentation of automation processes, scripts, and tools.
- Automate the application of security patches, updates, and compliance checks across Linux systems.
- Conduct training sessions or workshops to share automation knowledge and best practices with other teams and departments.
- Experience of designing and consulting on engineering solutions, comfortable with being the lead design authority for a project.
- Participate in on-call rota.
- Technical SME feeding into an Agile Project delivery artifact such as Scrum meetings, HLDs, LLDs and configuration documentation.
Must haves:
- Expert RHEL 7/8/9 knowledge.
- Expert knowledge and experience of Ansible Automation Platform.
- Solid Git knowledge and CI/CD pipeline experience.
- Demonstrated experience of building, upgrading, and administering Red Hat Satellite.
- Experience with Scripting and IaC (Bash, Python, YAML etc).
- Experience of working with containerization in an enterprise environment.
- Working knowledge of vSphere virtualisation.
- Ability to attain SC Level Clearance.
Might haves:
- AWS or other cloud provider expertise.
- Experience of Red Hat IDM, including install and administration.
- Packer and Terraform experience, including VM and in-VM orchestration scripts.
