About Arondite

Arondite is a defence technology company building the foundational software and AI to power the autonomous age. Our aim is to revolutionise the way organisations collaborate with sensors, robots and autonomous systems and use the data they generate. We are driven by our determination to help defend our collective democratic values and by our strong belief that an elite group of engineers can make a big difference. We are ambitious, well-funded and building for the long-term.

You will join Arondite at a pivotal moment in the company’s journey. Our company is being built by exceptional engineers - people who find high-impact and technically challenging work engaging and exciting, and who consistently deliver outsized impact. You will collaborate with other brilliant minds to solve some of the world’s hardest and most important problems.

You will have ownership and autonomy from Day One. There is no corporate ladder at Arondite. From your first day, you will contribute to the implementation and deployment of Arondite’s products with customers. We hire the best people and give them extremely high levels of autonomy; the sky is the limit for an individual with the right ambition.

If you are motivated by our mission and if you want to be part of a growing team of outstanding people, then we want to hear from you.

About the role

As a Deployed Systems Engineer at Arondite you will be collaborating closely with our other engineers to demonstrate, integrate and deploy Arondite’s software products in real world situations with defence end users. This will include working with uncrewed systems, sensors, embedded devices, edge compute and networking/communications kit (such as mesh radios and satellite links).

Being deployed means that you will be conducting and supporting testing in the field, both at Arondite’s test site and with customers across the UK and abroad. It will involve travel, working outdoors, and piloting drones, ground robots and potentially watercraft in the future.

When in the office you may be asked to create mechanical and electrical parts, and to write software that integrates third party hardware. Overall, the role will be very varied and challenging, suiting someone who is flexible and pragmatic with broad interests in embedded systems and robotics, alongside modern enterprise software. Whilst large amounts of prior experience isn’t critical, you will be expected to become proficient in new skills and technologies quickly.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Deploying Arondite’s software and AI products onto hardware
  • Writing embedded and non-embedded software to integrate third party hardware
  • Establishing wired and wireless networks to enable communication between Arondite's products and third party systems
  • Creating mechanical and electrical parts to integrate different third party hardware components
  • Conducting field testing of Arondite’s products both during development, and with customers
  • Supporting product demonstrations to end-users and potential customers
  • Piloting of all types of robotic and autonomous systems (including UAVs, UGVs and USVs). This will include gaining qualifications such as Remote Pilot Certificates

Requirements

You should have:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical subject
  • Software engineering skills for embedded devices (e.g. C), and object oriented languages such as C++, Java, or Rust
  • Experience in mechanical design, including 3D CAD and additive manufacturing techniques like 3D printing
  • Understanding of electronics, covering topics such as switch mode power supplies and embedded systems and protocols (I2C, UART, SPI, etc)
  • Hands-on experience with instruments such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, and signal generators for testing and debugging complex systems

Nice to have:

This is not an additional list of requirements, but any experience in these areas is a bonus.

  • Drone pilot qualifications, or an interest in obtaining them
  • Experience with robotic systems
  • Knowledge of networking technologies and the configuration of elements such as routers and VPNs
  • Understanding of RF systems and antennas
  • Practical workshop skills using hand and power tools
  • UK driving license

Right to Work

We require that all candidates have an existing Right to Work in the UK at the time of application.

Security clearance

We believe in working closely with defence customers. As a result, this role requires you to hold a clearance or be willing to undergo UK security vetting to Security Check (SC) or above. This normally requires having continuous residency in the UK for at least 5 years.

Office vs hybrid working

We are focused on building a positive, collaborative engineering-driven culture. We therefore believe in making the office a friendly, comfortable and fun place to be, and we try to work from the office where possible. Of course, there are times when it makes sense for you to work from home and that's OK. You may also need to travel to visit customers, depending on your role. But in general you should only apply to join Arondite if you're excited to come into the office and work in person by default.

Application process

Generally, our interview process is comprised of the following stages:

  • CV submission with initial questions
  • Introductory Teams call (30-45 mins)
  • In-person technical interview (1-2 hours)
  • Final interview with one of Arondite’s Founders (30 mins)

Benefits

  • Highly competitive base salary
  • Generous equity in EMI share options in a well-funded and growing startup
  • 7% employer pension contribution
  • Free meals in the office every day
  • Private health and dental insurance, with opt-in cover for dependents
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Relocation support
  • Access to any resources, equipment and training that you need to do your job in a world-class way
  • The opportunity to work with and learn from exceptional colleagues with excellent academic experience and deep industry knowledge
