Your NaRS or NPLQ qualification will be valid for 2 years. After this, you should have your lifesaving and first aid skills evaluated before your qualification is renewed. You might also work towards NVQ in Sport, Recreation and Allied Occupations (Level 2). The NaRS and NPLQ can be used as proof for the NVQ.
Being a beach lifeguard with the RNLI, you will get training in the use of specialist equipment like rescue watercraft, rescue boats and quad bikes.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Being a full-time lifeguard, you will normally work for 37 hours a week, which will include evenings, weekends and public holidays. However, most lifeguards work on a recreational or casual basis or as volunteers. Being a beach lifeguard you will have to work seasonally, primarily during daytime hours.
DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES
You can be employed as a pool lifeguard by local authorities, private clubs, leisure centres and hotels. With experience, you can progress to the position of assistant manager or supervisor at a leisure centre.
