This role is a permanent position or contract (outside IR35), on-site Commissioning Engineer role based in Edinburgh and surrounding areas. The Commissioning Engineer will perform electrical testing and commissioning of systems and equipment within HV substations, ensuring installations meet technical specifications, safety standards, and client requirements. Daily responsibilities include planning and executing test procedures, diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical issues, and documenting test results and commissioning reports. The role involves collaborating with project managers, design teams, and site contractors to resolve technical challenges and support project delivery. The Commissioning Engineer will also contribute to quality assurance, compliance with relevant regulations, and continuous improvement of commissioning processes.
Qualifications
- Strong technical ability in Electrical Engineering, with practical experience working on electrical systems and installations.
- Proficiency in Protection Relay Testing with manufacturers such as Micom and Siemens.
- Typically using Omicron test equipment, interpreting test results with the client and using relevant test equipment safely.
- Primary injections carried out on all new/modified CT circuits using Omicron CPC100.
- Hands-on experience as a Commissioning Engineer, including planning, executing, and documenting commissioning activities.
- Effective Troubleshooting skills for identifying, analysing, and resolving electrical and system-related issues on-site.
- Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or related discipline) or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with industry standards, safety regulations, and utility or grid-related authorisations (SPEN is an advantage).
- Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary project teams.
- Ability to work safely in an on-site environment, manage priorities, and maintain a high standard of quality and reliability.
