About the Role

Here at Arnfield Care, we are interested in talking to like-minded individuals looking for flexibility in the way they work. Perhaps you can't commit to a regular weekly work pattern or have greater availability on particular days, or are less busy with other work or responsibilities in some months of the year? We're looking to bolster our bank of relief residential care workers that support our teams across three beautiful homes in an idyllic Peak District setting.

We offer:

Being a relief worker means essentially, you have more control of when you do and don’t work. We’re not obliged to provide work for you and there’s no minimum, or for that matter maximum, amount of work we can guarantee. But, when we do offer you shifts, either well in advance because we know about planned absences, or at short notice because we have a more pressing staff challenge we need to solve, you have the choice to accept a shift that assignment or not. If it’s convenient, great. If not, that’s fine, we’ll be in touch next time. Each offer of work you take up is entirely at your discretion.

Key aspects of children's residential care work:

  • Ensuring each young person is safe and cared for effectively, addressing care, education, social, emotional, cultural, therapeutic and health needs.
  • Exercising appropriate control over children and young people at all times.
  • Working in partnership with parents, families, carers, and other professionals to advocate for, safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
  • Covering various shifts including early mornings, late evenings, and sleep-ins, on weekdays, weekends, and Bank Holidays, within the Homes and on residential trips.
  • Promoting an organisational culture which values every team member's contribution and is intolerant of discrimination in any form.
  • Maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality.

A rnfield Care: Established in 1997 and based in the High Peak area of Derbyshire, Arnfield Care Ltd is an outstanding, small, and proudly independent provider of high-quality therapeutic residential care and on-site education for children and young people. We support young people, aged 11-17, to deal with trauma resulting from a wide range of complex social, emotional and behavioural challenges in their formative years, helping them to rebuild trust, develop independence, and move forward with confidence.

We pride ourselves on being nurturing and supportive, and our approach is grounded in building warm, consistent, respectful and structured relationships tailored to individual needs, whether a young person is with us for a relatively short period of intensive crisis intervention work or here on a longer-term placement as they transition towards semi-independence. As well as our therapists and carers, our teachers and outdoor educators help us to regulate behaviour, bolster emotional well-being and transform the self-belief of our looked-after children by making individualised learning, in a safe and supportive environment, and outdoor adventures, designed to encourage fun and personal growth, a key part of the Arnfield experience. Requirements:

  • You must be eligible to work in the UK, have a full manual driving licence and a good standard of both written and spoken English.
  • Some previous experience working in children's residential care settings (or similar) is desired as is at least a basic awareness of Child Protection and Safeguarding practices.
  • A strong team ethic and an ability to relate to children and young people, especially those presenting challenging behaviour.
  • You must be emotionally resilient and prepared to promote equal opportunities and to challenge any behaviour or practice that discriminates against any young person or colleague.
  • An ability to work flexibly and unsupervised on occasions, according to the needs of the service.
  • A willingness to engage in outdoor activities and residential camps is ideal.

Senior relief roles require level 3/4 in residential Childcare (or equivalents).
