Full-Time Higher-Level Teaching Assistant Required 40 hours (Monday-Friday) 8am to 4pm.
Can you engage and support vulnerable and often challenging young people to succeed in their education? We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified, enthusiastic and caring education professional to join our team of committed teaching staff. Able to deliver across the wider curriculum and, when required, stand in for others where literacy and numeracy are concerned, you'll want to work one-on-one and make a genuine difference to young people's lives.
Arnfield Independent School, established in 1997 and based in the High Peak, is an Independent School located in Glossop (Ofsted rated Good with elements of Outstanding) that supports the education of looked-after children, aged 11-17, as part of a well-established Care Group. The school uses a variety of teaching strategies including one-to-one classroom teaching, ASDAN and outdoor education. We support students to re-engage with education, build confidence in learning and achieve meaningful learning outcomes, enabling them to take greater control of their lives as they transition into further education, training or work.
Our children and young people come from throughout the United Kingdom and, occasionally, abroad. They live in one of our three outstanding residential care homes where our support workers and team of psychologists help them deal with a wide range of complex issues resulting from social, emotional and behavioural difficulties in their formative years. Whether they are with us for short-term respite care, intensive crisis intervention work or longer-term placements as they transition towards semi-independence, we want to help them learn, grow and achieve so that they have every opportunity to succeed in later life.
Our curriculum is innovative and varied because the children we educate have complex individual needs. We pride ourselves on being nurturing and supportive, and on using tailored strategies to engage our young people so that they can overcome their disadvantages. We value diversity, resilience, passion and ambition, and demand that our staff are committed to providing the highest level of educational support for children experiencing crises. So you'll need to share this passion for improving the lives of young people; providing them with the best possible education while they're with us and the greatest opportunities to thrive when they leave the safety of our school.
As one of our higher-level teaching assistants you will:
- Work under the instruction and guidance of senior education staff, to deliver quality, tailored, learning and teaching.
- Contribute to the personalised nature of the education provision by regularly communicating with other members of the education team and care staff about each pupil's progress and needs.
- Work across multiple sites and in the local, wider community, when required, as part of the varied education offer at Arnfield Independent School.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of our children and young people at all times.
Aside from knowing that you're making a real difference to a young person's life, every time you come into work, as an outstanding independent provider of high-quality education we train and mentor you, as you mentor the young people in your care. We'll help you develop your technical skills and confidence and help you build a genuinely rewarding career; and we try hard to make sure you maintain a healthy work/life balance.
Competitive pay annual salary package of around £31k.
- Comprehensive induction training and ongoing CPD.
- 35 days paid holiday.
- Referral and loyalty bonuses from £50 to £500.
- Company pension scheme.
- Comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme (providing personal and professional help).

Requirements:
- Hold a relevant teaching assistant qualification (Level 3 qualification and above).
- Have experience of engaging reluctant learners and dealing with challenging behaviour.
- Have an innate ability to relate to young people.
- Be eligible to work in the UK and have a full, valid manual driving licence with fewer than six penalty points.
