About the Role Arnfield Independent School Established in 1997 and based in the High Peak area of Derbyshire, Arnfield Care Ltd is an outstanding independent provider of high-quality residential care and on-site education. Arnfield Independent School is a specialist education provision for young people aged 1117 who may present with complex social, emotional and behavioural needs and significant disruption to their education. Our approach is nurturing, supportive and aspirational. We use strong relationships, consistency and personalised learning to help pupils re-engage, build confidence and make meaningful personal and academic progress. And now, we are looking to bolster our team and improve the year-round education we provide by establishing our own bank of regular supply staff, from TAs to HLTAs, through to qualified teachers. Maybe youre already a seasoned supply professional. Maybe you just want to pick up some extra days work during mainstream school holidays. You may even be new to the whole interim assignment life. Reporting to our headteacher, youll stand in for our existing teachers and TAs when they are on leave, have training or are off ill, and youll be based in our main school in Glossop. A typical day might see you venture to one of our three local homes to deliver one-to-one lessons in one of our dedicated classrooms there, or perhaps be out in the community helping a young person to gain vital life experience through our ASDAN programme. As an Independent School (Ofsted rated Good with elements of Outstanding) we support the education of looked-after children. We use a variety of teaching strategies including one-to-one classroom teaching, ASDAN and outdoor education. We support students to re-engage with education, build confidence in learning and achieve meaningful learning outcomes, enabling them to take greater control of their lives as they transition into further education, training or work. Our children and young people come from throughout the United Kingdom and occasionally abroad. They live in one of our three outstanding residential care homes where our support workers and team of psychologists help them deal with a wide range of complex issues resulting from social, emotional and behavioural difficulties in their formative years. Whether they are with us for short-term respite care, intensive crisis intervention work or longer-term placements as they transition towards semi-independence, we want to help them learn, grow and achieve so that they have every opportunity to succeed in later life. Key Objectives Of The Role To support our education team by providing flexible cover during periods of planned and unplanned staff absences. To support the delivery of high-quality learning and teaching, working under the instruction, at a level thats appropriate to your qualifications, experience and agreed deployment level. To support pupils to re-engage with education, build confidence and make progress. To establish positive, professional relationships with pupils and to promote inclusion and acceptance and provide appropriate pastoral support so pupils feel safe and able to learn. To maintain continuity of established curriculum, routines, expectations and pupil-specific strategies. To monitor pupils responses to learning and accurately record their achievements. To communicate with education colleagues about pupil progress, and any significant changes in presentation. To prepare and maintain the resources required for an enriched curriculum. To safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and maintain high standards of professional conduct at all times. What's In It For You? Requirements You Must: Be a teaching assistant, higher-level teaching assistant or qualified teacher with a minimum of two years experience in a teaching or teaching-assistant role with young people aged 1117. Have a specialism, or demonstrable experience, in supporting the wider KS2 curriculum and be able to evidence success supporting pupil progress. Have experience of engaging reluctant learners and responding to emotionally dysregulated, verbally or physically challenging behaviour. Be able to establish positive relationships and maintain professional boundaries and have an innate ability to relate to young people. Available at short notice, able to work flexibly and, where appropriate, independently, and youll be reliable and punctual once an assignment is accepted. Be open to constructive feedback, training and professional development. Be eligible to work in the UK and have a full, valid manual driving licence. Though not strictly necessary, it would also be an advantage if you Had specific SEMH, safeguarding, pastoral or subject training. Had experience of residential/specialist education. Had experience of 1:1 teaching/support. Were Team-Teach trained or had equivalent positive behaviour management training. Had undertaken Prevent training.
