Build bridges, buildings, runways and more across the world. As a full-time soldier, entry-level Bricklayer in the British Army, you will:
- Become a qualified bricklayer and concreter ready to work on infrastructure projects
- Learn general construction, scaffolding, concreting, block laying and task planning
- Learn to work under tough conditions across the world
- Study for qualifications including NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Bricklaying and Concreting (Military Engineering)
To qualify, you must:
- Be between 16 years 6 months and 35 years 6 months
- Have a GCSE Grade A-C/9-5 or Scottish National 5 in Maths, English Language and one other subject
- Be able to pass a basic fitness test.
From the start of your training, you will earn £26,334 a year which will go up as you progress in your career. You do not need to know how to do the job before you get here, because we will give you all the training you need.
Step 1 is your initial military training teaching you how to be a soldier which will be basic military training if you are a Junior Soldier and adult basic training if you are a Regular Soldier. Step 2 will be 12 weeks at the Royal School of Military Engineering where you will learn military engineering skills including demolition and bridge building. Step 3 will be 33 weeks of technical training at the Royal School of Engineering learning about brickwork, scaffolding and concreting.
You will also receive 30 days annual leave every year (plus bank holidays and extra leave after operations), free medical and dental care, cheaper living costs, and free gym and sports facilities. Unless you are away on operations or training exercises, you will normally work 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. You will even get to travel the world, taking part in the Army's adventurous training, and spending dedicated time playing the sports you love.
