The Army offers a full-time entry-level Painter position with a salary of £26,334 a year (after training). As a Painter, you will work on building projects around the world and be responsible for:
- Adding finishing touches to buildings including headquarters, hospitals, and military bases
- Mastering trades including plaster boarding, painting, and tiling
- Becoming an expert in skills like glazing and scaffolding
- Carrying out work on a variety of military and civilian projects
- Studying for qualifications including NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Building and Structural Finishing (Military Engineering)
To qualify, you must:
- Be between 16 years 6 months and 35 years 6 months
- Have a GCSE Grade A-C/9-5 or Scottish National 5 in Maths, English Language, and one other subject
- Be able to pass a basic fitness test
From the start of your training, you will earn £26,334 a year, which will increase as you progress in your career. You will gain transferable skills that could set you up for life. Training includes:
- Initial military training to become a soldier
- 12 weeks at the Royal School of Military Engineering learning military engineering skills
- 24 weeks of technical training at the Royal School of Engineering covering dry lining, painting, wall and floor tiling, planning, and site safety
You will also receive 30 days of annual leave every year (plus bank holidays and extra leave after operations), free medical and dental care, cheaper living costs, and access to free gym and sports facilities. Typically, you will work from 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, unless away on operations or training exercises. This role offers opportunities to travel the world, participate in adventurous training, and engage in sports.
