As a full-time, entry-level Vehicle Mechanic in the British Army, you will:

  • Keep the Army's vehicles available in barracks and on operations
  • Service and maintain all vehicle types from Tanks to HGVs
  • Conduct preventative maintenance
  • Work in line with Army policy on vehicle maintenance and Health and Safety guidelines
  • Assist in roadworthiness testing of all Army vehicles

To qualify, you must be between 16 years 6 months and 35 years 6 months, pass a basic fitness test, and have GCSEs grade A-D/9-3 in at least English Language, Maths and Science.

During your initial training, you will earn £18,687, after which your salary will rise to £23,496. If you set your mind to it, you could reach Corporal within 5 years, earning £33,065. You will also receive 38 days annual leave every year (plus bank holidays and extra leave after operations), free medical and dental care, cheaper living costs, and free gym and sports facilities. Unless you are away on operations or training exercises, you will normally work 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

You will even get to travel the world, taking part in the Army's adventurous training, and spending dedicated time playing the sports you love.
