We are currently hiring a Technical Programme Manager to bring clarity, pace, and accountability across a complex engineering portfolio. This is a programme‑level role, not project management. There are no project managers within our client, and this position exists to sit above delivery teams, joining the dots across multiple initiatives and providing clear visibility at senior level.
You will own the view across a portfolio of 10 to 15 concurrent initiatives, working closely with engineering and product to align backlogs, track progress, surface risk, and ensure outcomes are understood.
What You Will Be Responsible For:
- Owning visibility across a portfolio of technical initiatives
- Tracking progress, dependencies, and risks across teams
- Aligning and maintaining engineering backlogs
- Operating Jira and delivery tooling as the single source of truth
- Preparing and running monthly portfolio‑level reviews
- Providing clear status updates, explanations, and outcomes to senior stakeholders
- Challenging teams when delivery drifts and chasing clarity where needed
- Coordinating work without direct authority or line management
You will not own delivery decisions, but you will surface the information that enables decisions to be made.
What We Are Looking For:
- Experience operating at programme level across multiple workstreams
- Strong background in software engineering or programming with credibility in technical conversations
- Comfortable working independently and driving alignment without direct reports
- Confident operating at senior level and holding people to account
- Highly organised, outcome‑driven, and clear in communication
- Experience using delivery tooling such as Jira to track and report progress
- Exposure to hardware or embedded systems is a bonus but not essential
What This Role Is Not:
- It is not a project management role
- It is not a heavily governed or rigid regulated environment
- It is not about running Agile ceremonies or owning delivery plans
- We need someone who can be agile, pragmatic, and comfortable working in ambiguity
Why this role is for you?
Market Leader operating across critical sectors including fire security, telecare, and national infrastructure. They are private‑equity backed, growing rapidly, and investing heavily in delivery maturity. You will be trusted with autonomy, visibility, and real influence across the technology organisation. If you enjoy joining dots, challenging assumptions, and making complex delivery make sense at scale, this role will suit you. The role is on site 3 days a week.
