The IT Project Engineer is responsible for delivering high‑quality technical projects across customer environments, ensuring solutions are implemented to best‑practice standards, on time, and with minimal disruption. Operating within a Managed Service Provider (MSP), this role combines strong technical capability with excellent planning, communication, and customer‑facing skills.

You will work across server, cloud, networking, security, and telecoms technologies, delivering installations, migrations, upgrades, and transformation projects. The role requires a proactive, detail‑driven engineer who can take ownership of project delivery from planning through to completion. Although primarily office‑based, the position includes essential on‑site attendance for audits, onboarding, project work, and issue resolution. Participation in an on‑call rota is also required to support critical customer incidents.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Delivery & Implementation

  • Deliver IT, cloud, networking, and telecoms projects to a high standard, ensuring accuracy, quality, and adherence to scope.
  • Install, configure, and migrate systems including servers, networks, Microsoft 365, Azure, firewalls, Wi‑Fi, and end‑user devices.
  • Conduct pre‑installation checks, risk assessments, and readiness reviews to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to plan workloads, provide technical input, and ensure milestones are met.
  • Produce clear project documentation including implementation plans, configuration notes, and post‑installation reports.
  • Support customer go‑lives, cutovers, and out‑of‑hours project work when required.
  • Attend customer sites when necessary for IT audits, onboarding activities, project delivery, and investigation of issues that cannot be resolved remotely.

Technical Expertise & Hands‑On Engineering

  • Deploy and configure Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, and virtualisation platforms (VMware/Hyper‑V).
  • Implement Microsoft 365 and Azure solutions including migrations, identity, security, and device management (Intune).
  • Configure and troubleshoot networking technologies including firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, routing, switching, and Wi‑Fi.
  • Support telecoms and VoIP deployments including Gamma Horizon, Giacom, SIP services, and call routing.
  • Perform system upgrades, patching, hardware installations, and infrastructure refreshes.
  • Ensure all project work aligns with security best practice and compliance requirements.
  • Carry out comprehensive IT audits across customer environments, assessing infrastructure, security posture, configuration standards, and operational readiness, providing clear findings and recommendations.
  • Work closely with 2nd and 3rd Line teams to ensure project readiness, technical alignment, and knowledge transfer.
  • Support the escalation process during complex project‑related issues or unexpected technical challenges.
  • Collaborate with vendors and third‑party suppliers to coordinate installations, licensing, and technical support.
  • Contribute to internal technical standards, templates, and best‑practice documentation.
  • Ensure audit findings, site‑visit outcomes, and onboarding requirements are communicated effectively across internal teams.

Experience & Technical Skills

  • 3–5+ years’ experience in an MSP environment delivering technical projects or advanced 2nd/3rd line work.
  • Windows Server (2016–2022), Active Directory, Group Policy
  • Virtualisation: VMware or Hyper‑V
  • Microsoft 365: Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Security & Compliance
  • Networking: firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, routing, switching, Wi‑Fi
  • Experience delivering migrations, deployments, and infrastructure upgrades.

Some certifications would also be a huge advantage i.e. MS‑900, AZ‑900, MS‑102, AZ‑104, SC‑300.
