Brilliant new opportunity for an experienced ESG Manager to lead and evolve the Environmental, Social & Governance strategy across data centre operations and wider business activities. This role will be instrumental in embedding sustainability, compliance and responsible business practices into a rapidly growing critical infrastructure environment. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Facilities, Commercial and Executive leadership teams to develop measurable ESG initiatives that support operational resilience, customer expectations and long-term business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Environmental & Sustainability
- Lead the development and execution of an ESG and sustainability roadmap.
- Manage carbon reduction initiatives across data centre operations, including energy efficiency, renewable energy strategy and emissions reporting.
- Monitor and improve sustainability performance metrics including PUE, water usage and waste management.
- Coordinate environmental reporting aligned to frameworks such as GRI, TCFD, SECR, CDP and Science Based Targets where applicable.
- Support green building certifications and sustainability accreditations across operational sites.
- Work with engineering and facilities teams to identify operational efficiency improvements.
- Ensure ESG activities align with regulatory requirements, customer obligations and industry best practice.
- Support development of ESG policies, governance frameworks and supplier sustainability standards.
- Oversee ESG risk identification, reporting and audit readiness.
- Collaborate with procurement and legal teams on responsible sourcing and supplier due diligence initiatives.
- Drive employee engagement initiatives linked to sustainability, wellbeing, diversity and inclusion.
- Support community engagement and local partnership programmes.
- Act as a key ESG contact for customers, investors and external stakeholders.
- Prepare ESG-related content for bids, customer RFPs and corporate reporting.
- Produce regular ESG performance reports and executive-level updates.
- Establish KPIs and measurable targets across environmental and social programmes.
- Benchmark against industry peers and emerging market standards within digital infrastructure and data centres.
- Support long-term ESG strategy aligned to business growth and investor expectations.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience in an ESG, Sustainability or Environmental Management role.
- Experience within data centres, critical infrastructure, engineering, construction, energy or industrial environments.
- Strong understanding of ESG reporting frameworks and sustainability standards.
- Knowledge of UK environmental legislation and corporate sustainability reporting obligations.
- Experience managing cross-functional projects and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills with the ability to interpret operational data.
Desirable
- Experience within data centre, hyperscale, colocation or mission-critical environments.
- Degree qualified in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional accreditation such as IEMA, IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent.
- Understanding of energy management systems and decarbonisation strategies.
- Experience supporting ISO standards including ISO 14001 and ISO 50001.
