The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, improve sustainability, and maximize profitability. This role requires collaboration with cross‑functional teams, including design, quality, and production teams, to ensure that manufacturing systems are effective and meet the company’s production goals.
Job Accountability- Process Design and Improvement: Develop, evaluate, and enhance manufacturing processes with a strong emphasis on Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFMA), ensuring ease of production and assembly efficiency. Conduct Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEAs) to proactively identify and mitigate risks in manufacturing processes. Develop and implement comprehensive process control plans to drive consistency, enhance quality, and improve operational efficiency. Design and implement streamlined process flows and optimized layout strategies to enhance production efficiency. Analyse production workflows to identify and implement standardization initiatives and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Production Support: Provide proactive technical support to production teams to ensure seamless execution of the build plan, minimizing downtime and ensuring smooth operations. Collaborate with production personnel to troubleshoot problems and develop solutions. Support the development of standardized work instructions and best practices to optimise production efficiency and maintain process consistency. Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, embedding best practices within production processes to uphold workplace safety and operational integrity.
- Quality Control: Develop and implement robust quality control systems and standards to uphold product integrity and compliance. Drive the effective deployment of the 8D problem‑solving methodology to conduct thorough root cause analysis of quality issues and implement sustainable corrective actions. Collaborate closely with the quality assurance team to ensure all products meet customer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Manage the Non‑Conformance Report (NCR) process to address defects and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Equipment and Tooling: Specify, select, and oversee the installation of new manufacturing equipment. Maintain and improve existing equipment to enhance productivity. Design and procure tooling and fixtures required for manufacturing processes. Implement lean methodologies and modular build strategies to optimise manufacturing efficiency.
- Cost Reduction: Implement Lean Six Sigma methodologies and other lean manufacturing principles to minimise waste, drive efficiency, and enhance operational performance. Conduct detailed cost analysis of manufacturing builds and proactively identify opportunities for cost reduction initiatives. Collaborate with procurement and supply‑chain teams to optimise material usage, reduce waste, and drive cost efficiencies.
- Documentation and Reporting: Develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures, control plans, and process flow diagrams to ensure adherence to best practices. Generate detailed reports on manufacturing performance, to drive data‑driven decision‑making and continuous improvement. Ensure accurate and up‑to‑date documentation of all process modifications, changes, and improvements within BOM structure and routing system, maintaining full traceability.
- Project Management: Lead and manage complex manufacturing and product development projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives and operational strategies. Develop and implement structured methodologies for New Product Introduction (NPI) to ensure a seamless transition from design to full‑scale production. Establish and manage project timelines, resource plans, and budgets to successfully execute business‑critical initiatives. Engage and collaborate with cross‑functional teams and key stakeholders to drive projects to completion, ensuring timely delivery within scope and budget constraints.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment. Stay updated with the latest manufacturing technologies and industry trends. Conduct training sessions for production staff on new processes, quality tools, and lean methodologies.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field or an equivalent qualification and relevant industrial experience.
- Experience: Substantial experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or a similar role ideally within process plant, HVAC, capital equipment, large infrastructure projects involving multi‑disciplinary electro‑mechanical facets. Working experience with PLM, PDM or ERP system. Understanding of BOM generation would be advantageous. Expertise in conducting and implementing DFMA, PFMEAs, control plans, and standardisation initiatives. Strong knowledge of structured problem‑solving techniques such as 8D problem‑solving. Proficiency in managing BOM structures and routing systems.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes & materials, incl. fabrication, welding, structural steel, building construction, & associated trade disciplines, ideally in the modular build arena. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and other engineering tools. Extensive experience with lean manufacturing and continuous process improvement methodologies in a low‑volume, high‑value manufacturing environment. Expertise in defining manufacturing and quality‑related standards, originating visual standards, SOPs, and work instructions, and delivering training to skilled personnel. Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) (e.g., ISO 9001). Strong project management and organisational skills. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Proven ability to manage and resolve NCRs effectively, ensuring continuous quality improvement.
