Key Responsibilities of an Automation Assistant:

  • Manage Procedures and Prioritise Safety: Oversee operating procedures, always prioritising safety.
  • Achieve Production Targets: Ensure production targets are consistently met every shift.
  • Start of shift checks: Ensuring equipment is fit for use.
  • Powering down: Safely and correctly to allow product flow faults to be rectified.
  • Investigate: The reasons upon emergency stop and restart system (non-technical errors).
  • Rectify time-out faults: Using the manual controllers (Pendant or HMI panel).
  • Follow safety procedures: At all times and when working on or near the Automated Handling equipment, including isolation of adjoining equipment.
  • Adhering to: Safe entry procedures and use of correct PPE.
  • Collaborate Effectively: Maintain product flow and work closely with other teams and departments to achieve production goals through effective communication and supporting Engineers on tasks.
  • Using access equipment: Safely and correctly in and around the Automated systems to rectify product flow issues.
  • Performing minor repairs: and refurbishment work using provided tools.
  • Machine Housekeeping: Cleanliness, removal of any objects such as pallet debris or cling film to ensure product flow is not impeded.
  • Reporting: Any issues to control room for action / escalation to engineers for rectification.
  • Communication: Of faults and system availability, following onsite communication protocol to ensure the operation is kept informed at all times (use of handheld radio provided).
  • Notifying: Error Handlers of systems faults and their locations.
  • Attend shift handover meetings: At all times to communicate main issues from off going to oncoming shifts.
  • Attend toolbox talks: Meetings with Engineering colleagues and or management to relay concerns/ issues and problems within the Automated Materials handling system.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Numerate & Literate: Be able to use IT equipment.
  • Self-Motivated: Be able and responsible to work on own initiative.
  • Auditory Comprehension: Be clear spoken in voice English language and auditory comprehension.
  • Experience: In warehousing, Engineering or Automation material handling environments would be advantageous.
  • Engineering: An interest in Engineering would be an advantage.
  • Analytical: The ability to analyse situations.
  • Ability: To learn and retain information.
  • Attitude: Maintain a positive attitude and remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • Conscientious: Take pride in your work, remain results orientated and customer focused.
  • Attention to detail: A right first-time approach always with emphasis on work safely.
  • Physically Fit: And able to fulfil the role.
  • Manual Handling: Be aware and apply excellent Manual Handling techniques.
  • Work at height: Be comfortable and have ability to work at height safely via ladder and steps.
  • Full and legal rights to work in the UK. (We cannot sponsor or support VISA applicants at this time).
  • Understand the need to work Safely at all times adhering to safety procedures.
  • Excellent thinking skills with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Clear and concise communication skills with voice and radio manner.
  • Be an integral part of the engineering team, responding to material flow stoppages establishing root cause analysis to limit downtime, communicating findings to improve machine reliability and performance.
  • Must be able to read and follow written instructions & procedures.
  • Willing to learn and adapt to role requirements.
  • Experience of working well in a team within a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong work ethic and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work at height.
