ROLE: To drive a school bus on an assigned bus route in the Inverness County area. (Route 174) Currently serving West Lake Ainslie, HWY 395, Skye Glen, HWY 19, HWY 252, East Skye Glen, Marble Mountain Road, Big Harbour Island to Whycocomagh Education Centre & Dalbrae Academy.
Responsibilities:
- Operate a school bus in accordance with all safety standards as prescribed by the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and in accordance with Strait Regional Centre for Education Policies and Procedures.
- Perform pre-trip inspections at the beginning of each work day.
- Perform pre-trip inspections prior to extra/co-curricular trips.
- Complete all transportation related forms as required (Hours of Work, Route & Passenger Sheets, Daily Inspection Sheets, etc.).
- Maintain discipline on school buses and follow Strait Regional Centre for Education policies and procedures of incidents on buses.
- Report all accidents in accordance with Strait Regional Centre for Education policy and procedure.
- Keep inside and outside of bus clean in accordance with Strait Regional Centre for Education standards.
- Report mechanical problems to the appropriate designate.
- Operate the school bus in accordance with the route plan and schedule.
- Attend all Driver In-services provided by the Strait Regional Centre for Education.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
- Minimum class 2B or 2C license with air brake endorsement.
- Proven ability to deal effectively with students on the bus, gained through experience or SRCE sponsored training program.
- High school completion or equivalent in experience and training.
- Four months driving experience as a professional school bus driver.
- Current First Aid or willing to obtain prior to employment.
- Current Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certification would be considered an asset.
- Commercial Safety College courses or related safety courses would be considered an asset.
- Successful completion of the SRCE sponsored casual bus driver training program, or completion of a recognized professional driver training program.
