The Cafeteria Worker, under the direction of the Head Cafeteria Worker and the School Food Program Lead, is responsible for food preparation and service for school food programs. Working in a dynamic, high-pressure, fast-paced environment, the Cafeteria Worker upholds the values of the School Food and Nutrition Policy and the Inclusive Education policy and is committed to promoting equity, helping create healthy school food environments, and interacting with students in a way that is friendly, positive and maintains trust and confidentiality.
Main responsibilities include:
- Preparing and serving food from scratch for school food programs, primarily the lunch program.
- Performing kitchen duties such as maintaining food safety logs (e.g. temperature checks), washing dishes, collecting and removing compost, recyclables and garbage, cleaning and organizing work areas, equipment, service stations, and floors.
- Restocking supplies as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Completion of a culinary course preferred.
- Experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Completion of food safety training program (or willingness to complete upon offer of employment).
- Able to perform physically strenuous duties of the position, including heavy lifting (possibly up to 50 lb), walking and/or standing for the majority of each shift, and working in an environment with heat fluctuations.
- Availability for early morning shift start times as required.

- Excellent people skills, with the ability to interact with people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong time-management skills.
