Qualifications, Experience & Ability

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor of Education Degree;
    • Master of Education Degree with a focus on curriculum, or equivalent.
  • Minimum Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years successful classroom teaching.
    • Deep understanding of curricular expectations. Specific content-area expertise and/or training may be required, based on regional priorities and assignment.
  • Minimum Ability:
    • Predominantly demonstrated through the interview process, the candidate will be assessed on their ability to effectively deal with situations that are likely to arise.
    • Internal applicants must meet a minimum threshold of 70% where they do not have experience in the position. External applicants must meet a minimum threshold of 70%.

Notes

The overall purpose of the Literacy Coach is to enhance instructional effectiveness and positively impact student learning, achievement, and well-being across the P-12 system. The coach is responsible for providing student-focused, collaborative support to teachers through classroom and virtual (synchronous and asynchronous) coaching. The coach strengthens instructional practice by engaging teachers in reflective dialogue, modeling high-leverage practices, and using student evidence to inform instructional decision-making.

  • Knowledge of high leverage literacy practices in instruction, assessment, and evaluation within an MTSS Framework.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with the P-2 and 3-6 Updated Language Arts Curriculum and other relevant documents/curriculum guides.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with Provincial Moodles, TEAMS and GAFE.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with the CCRCE System Improvement Plan.
  • Knowledge of and experience using various Authorized Learning Resources for Literacy.
  • Knowledge of current curriculum initiatives in literacy.
  • Knowledge of and experience using quality practices to integrate technology.
  • Extensive experience in planning - lesson, unit, yearly planning at various grade levels.
  • Knowledge of current assessment, evaluation, and reporting initiatives (DEECD/CCRCE).
  • Successful leadership in planning and facilitating professional development for adult learners.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Well-developed communication skills: both oral and written.
  • Exceptional leadership skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings including team leadership, team membership, and individual self-direction.
  • Demonstrated experience with Professional Learning Community culture, structures, and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of the quality practices in school improvement processes.
